Former Browns WR Joe Jurevicius reached a settlement with the organization over its negligence in staph infections.
Jurevicious was seeking compensation for the Browns' failure to provide proper sterilization at their Barea facility. Jurevicius, one of six Browns to contract staph between 2003 and 2008, has now undergone six procedures on his knee to fix the problem. The knee issues ultimately ended his career.

A federal judge has ruled that Joe Jurevicius can proceed with his lawsuit against the Browns for negligence in staph infections.
The Browns wanted the case thrown out and handled through arbitration as part of the NFL collective bargaining agreement. Jurevicius contends that the team is liable for failing to inform him of hazardous conditions. That seems perfectly reasonable considering the outbreak of staph infections over several seasons in Cleveland, not to mention the fact that it ended Jurevicius' career.

Remember when this was a nice story of a hometown guy taking less money to play for his favorite team? The Browns plan to "vigorously defend" themselves, so it sounds like we're headed for a trial.

Former NFL receiver Joe Jurevicius is suing the Browns, ex-team Dr. Anthony Miniaci, and current team Dr. Richard Figler for "negligence and fraud" regarding his 2007-2008 knee injuries.
The 34-year-old is arguing that the doctors and team cost him more years in the NFL. Jurevicius needed at least seven knee surgeries after catching a staph infection at the Cleveland Clinic, which is also being sued. Jurevicius hasn't formally retired, but the lawsuits confirm that he's done playing.

Coach Rob Chudzinski admitted that Richardson might not even be ready for June 4-6 minicamp. It's not a serious injury, but T-Rich did struggle badly with nagging injuries as a rookie. He missed one game and averaged a disappointing 3.55 yards.

Browns WR David Nelson (knee surgery) isn't participating in this week's voluntary workouts.
Nelson is still rehabbing his torn ACL, but should be ready for June's mandatory minicamp. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nelson joins Greg Little and Josh Gordon to form one of the biggest receiver trios in the league. With new coach Rob Chudzinski's history of heavily utilizing the tight end, however, it's a poor bet Nelson will approach his 2011 stat line of 61/658/5 as the fourth option in the offense.
