The Philadelphia Inquirer reports neither Jason Avant nor Clay Harbor are changing positions despite taking snaps on defense in OTAs.
Harbor ended up spending only one day at outside linebacker, while Avant took a handful of reps at defensive back. Reporter Jeff McLane describes the moves as "an effort to explore different scenarios." Avant says he's open to anything. "It's one of those things that I work hard, and whatever that may be, and whatever the team wants me to do, I'll do it," Avant said. "I'm going to do it the best I can. I don't necessarily think it's a clouded future. I think it's an honor, in any way, for any coach to think you can do other things."

The Eagles have been working WR Jason Avant at defensive back.
Coach Chip Kelly is certainly putting his stamp on the team. We already mentioned how TE Clay Harbor was dabbling at outside linebacker. Avant set a career-high with 53 catches last season, but he's nothing more than a middling slot talent with no big-play ability. The Eagles traded for Arrelious Benn, and Avant might be on the outside looking in at the 53-man roster.

Jason Avant caught four passes for 39 yards in the Eagles' Week 17 loss to the Giants.
Avant left the game to get X-rays on his foot and knee early on, but quickly returned. The sure-handed slot receiver had another predictably boring season with 53 catches, 648 yards and no touchdowns. Over the last three years, Avant has a total of two touchdowns despite catching 156 passes. He's not a playmaker and could see his playing time reduced in 2013 under a new regime. Avant was a favorite of fired head coach Andy Reid.

Jason Avant caught eight passes for 70 yards in the Eagles' Week 16 loss to the Redskins.
The sure-handed Avant continues to be the underneath security blanket for Nick Foles. He racked up 12 targets two weeks after a 7/133/0 outburst against the Bucs. Still, Avant's lack of big-play ability or speed makes him an unappealing long-term option for fantasy owners or the Eagles. He's ideally a situational slot receiver for them once DeSean Jackson returns in 2013.
