Bucs agreed to terms with RG Davin Joseph on a seven-year, $53 million contract including $19 million guaranteed.
Joseph broke the news on Twitter late Thursday, and the St. Petersburg Times confirmed the deal's length and financials. Though opinions across the NFL seem mixed on Joseph, the Bucs know his potential as a mauling run blocker. The cost was hefty for an interior lineman, though. Joseph, 27, will return as the team's starting right guard. No longer a zone blocker, Joseph is expected to flourish in new line coach Pat Morris' power-blocking scheme.

Free agent RG Davin Joseph indicated on Twitter Wednesday that he's yet to receive a contract offer from the Bucs.
Bucs GM Mark Dominik strongly hinted in a Tuesday press conference that Joseph is the team's top priority, but the team appears to be slow-playing it. As far as we can tell, it's working because Joseph has not been connected to any other teams. Ideally, Dominik could lock up Joseph at a discounted rate.

Re-signing RG Davin Joseph is expected to be the Bucs' No. 1 priority during the 72-hour window for teams to retain their own free agents.
The Bucs believe the underachieving Joseph will be a better fit in new line coach Pat Morris' power-blocking scheme. Joseph often struggled in Pete Mangurian's zone system. To retain Joseph, the Bucs may have to pony up one of the richest contracts for an offensive guard in league history. They have plenty of cap space to do it, of course, and need to at least hit the salary floor.

Although he wants to return to Tampa, free agent OG Davin Joseph says the Bucs' approach to re-signing key teammates will affect his decision.
Joseph wants to ensure that the Bucs will take a "step in the right direction" as opposed to "trying to reconstruct the whole roster." In particular, Joseph wants to see OT Jeremy Trueblood and MLB Barrett Ruud re-signed. "I'm optimistic about staying here in Tampa," he said. "This is where I want to be."
