3/15/2013: Signed a five-year, $45 million contract. The deal contains $17.8 million guaranteed -- a $10 million signing bonus and each of Jennings' first two base salaries. Another $2.5 million is available through incentives. Greg Jennings will start at the flanker, or "Z" position, in the Vikings' offense.
It's the same spot Percy Harvin occupied. Jerome Simpson is penciled in as the field-stretching split end and Jarius Wright will come on in three-wide sets. The Vikings also figure to add wideout talent early in April's draft. But the focal point of the passing game will be Jennings, who can play all the positions and run all the routes. Remember that Harvin racked up 80 targets in the first eight games of last season before going down in Week 9.

A league source tells the Boston Globe the Patriots
did not
make an offer to Greg Jennings before he signed with the Vikings.
It's the usual anonymous source tit-for-tat we get this time of year, but both reports come from highly respected reporters. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle, as in the Pats reached out to Jennings but never made a formal offer. Whatever the case is, it's clear the Pats aren't done remaking their receiver corps.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Greg Jennings received an offer worth $8 million annually from the Packers and a $6 million-a-year offer from the Patriots before signing with the Vikings for $9 million per season.
The report of a $10 million-a-year offer from Green Bay was erroneous, and possibly planted by the Packers to drive up Jennings' price tag for division-rival Minnesota. Per the Journal-Sentinel, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin "isn't particularly high" on Jennings, and Miami never made a significant offer. Jennings' Vikings deal is for five years and $45 million, with $2.5 million more available in incentives.

Vikings agreed to terms with Greg Jennings on a five-year, $47.5 million contract, including $18 million guaranteed.
The $9.5 million annual average makes Jennings the NFL's seventh-highest paid wide receiver, behind Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, Percy Harvin, and Vincent Jackson. Minnesota put the full-court press on Jennings Thursday night by bringing in coach Leslie Frazier and star RE Jared Allen to dinner. After trading Harvin, GM Rick Spielman badly needed to replace his production. Jennings, 29, can play all three receiver positions and finished 2012 on a roll after an injury-plagued regular season, with 25 catches for 280 yards and four TDs over Green Bay's final four games, including playoffs. The way Minnesota's receiver corps looks now, we'd expect Jennings and Jerome Simpson to play on the outside with Jarius Wright in the slot. Minnesota also has two first-round picks. Jennings' signing is a good get for Christian Ponder's development.

GM Rick Spielman gives Christian Ponder "just as much credit for getting us in the playoffs" as Adrian Peterson.
Spielman was referring specifically to Ponder's play when the Vikings won their final four games of the regular season. During that time, he completed 60.6 percent of his passes and threw just one interception, but averaged a mere 157.5 yards per game and totaled four passing scores. These comments are another case of Spielman trying to pump up Ponder's confidence. He's ready to ride or die with his 2011 No. 12 overall pick.

Adrian Peterson said his goal for this season is to run for 2,500 yards.
Peterson rumbled for 2,097 last season even though he was coming off a knee reconstruction and playing through a sports hernia. In order to reach 2,500 yards, he'd need to average 156.25 yards per day over 16 games. It's not going to happen, but Peterson is set up for another run at Eric Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yards. Lead-blocker Jerome Felton and mauling tackle Phil Loadholt are both back and Peterson will be 21 months removed from his ACL tear by the time Week 1 rolls around.

Vikings WR Greg Childs (torn patellar tendons) has resumed sprinting and cutting.
"All the necessary things I need to be doing, I'm doing now," Childs said. "I still do my cuts and my runs full speed. There is no change in the way I run or the way I play. My routes are still the same." Despite the progress, Childs admits he's not close to 100 percent. The Vikings are operating under the assumption Childs "may never play a meaningful down in the NFL." So should fantasy owners.
