Jets DC Dennis Thurman says Antonio Cromartie will shadow No. 1 receivers this season.
It's Darrelle Revis' old role, and one Cromartie filled ably last season after Revis tore his ACL. It allows No. 9 pick Dee Milliner to develop in less high-pressure situations. Going into his age-29 season, Cromartie is coming off arguably his best NFL campaign. The pieces are in place for the Jets to field another top-10 defense, but the offense figures to make 2013 a long season.

Antonio Cromartie converted $6.16 million of his $7 million base salary into a signing bonus to clear salary cap room.
His future cap numbers will be bigger, but the move gives the Jets more 2013 flexibility, even if they keep swinging and whiffing on their free-agent targets. Cromartie is coming off his best NFL season in pass coverage. Rex Ryan will put him back in the "Island" role in 2013 after Darrelle Revis is traded.

ESPN New York reports there is a "small segment" of the Jets' organization that would prefer to trade Antonio Cromartie over Darrelle Revis.
Cromartie is coming off a career-best year where he was asked to cover the offense's No. 1 receiver in Revis' absence. He also has two years left on his deal, and his trade value has never been higher. Due $9.5 million in 2013, the Jets would only take a cap hit of $2.5 million by trading Cromartie, instead of the $12 million hit they'd endure for dealing Revis. Cromartie is due a $2.3 million roster bonus on March 14, so a deal would have to be struck before then. Rex Ryan is believed to be of the contingent that supports trading Cromartie instead of Revis.

Coach Bill Belichick had high praise for Jets CB Antonio Cromartie Tuesday.
Ever since Darrelle Revis went down in Week 3, Cromartie has been among the best corners in the league. Per ProFootballFocus.com, he's allowing opponents to complete just 46.2 percent of passes thrown at him. "He's a hard guy to throw over on the perimeter," Belichick said. "He runs fast, he makes up ground. There have been a number of plays where receivers get behind him, but he's able to run them down, still get his hands on the ball." Expect Cromartie to spend most of Thanksgiving night on Brandon Lloyd. When the Jets played the Patriots in Week 7, Lloyd had one catch for six yards.

The Jets don't expect Santonio Holmes (foot) to participate in June's mandatory minicamp.
It's not a surprise, as Holmes is still considered iffy for the beginning of training camp after going down last September. Holmes' injury was serious, but he doesn't seem to be rehabbing with a sense of urgency, instead taking classes at Ohio State. This is a marriage both sides appear keen to end. They almost certainly will in 2014.

Stephen Hill has sat out the Jets' first two OTA sessions with swelling in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Hill declared himself "100 percent" earlier this month, but that's not the case. Recovering from an operation to repair his LCL, Hill needs as many offseason reps as possible after being utterly lost for the majority of his rookie campaign. He's not off to a good start.
