The Saints have yet to contact free agent Marques Colston about a contract extension.
Given the Saints' cash outlay, they'll likely have to choose between re-signing Colston or free agent LG Carl Nicks. GM Mickey Loomis has a history of managing the salary cap and keeping home-grown talent, so it's not unrealistic to think Loomis could find a way to bring one or both back.

Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times lists Marques Colston, Roman Harper, and Mario Williams as three players the Raiders could pursue in free agency.
Corkran admits it's purely "speculation," presumably based on new coach Dennis Allen's history with Colston and Harper. Opining that Darrius Heyward-Bey is still ideally a No. 3 receiver despite his furious finish to the 2011 season, Corkran also believes Vincent Jackson is a "very viable option" in free agency. We see the Raiders as having higher priorities than wide receiver.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune's "glass-is-half-full" prediction is that Saints will re-sign all three of free agents Marques Colston, Drew Brees, and Carl Nicks.
Saints writer Mike Triplett expects GM Mickey Loomis to "make it work" due to his history of managing the salary cap and keeping home-grown talent. Brees isn't going anywhere, and we can envision Loomis matching offers to bring Colston back. Nicks is the one most likely to land a monster offer to test Loomis' budget and discipline.

Marques Colston hauled in nine passes for 136 yards and a touchdown in the Saints' Divisional round loss to the 49ers.
Drew Brees dropped a perfectly thrown touch pass over Colston's shoulder in tight coverage at the pylon for a 25-yard score. Though Colston was Brees' lone reliable target down the field, he just missed a difficult third-down catch in the end zone that could have turned the Saints' fortunes. Colston hits free agency in March, and we expect franchise QB Brees to go to bat for his No. 1 receiver in talks with the Saints' front office.

Mark Ingram (turf toe surgery) has shed his crutches.
The Saints expect Ingram to participate fully in their offseason program after his early-January surgery. In terms of on-field risk of aggravation, the only concern would be if the Saints were playing football or running and cutting anytime soon. They obviously aren't. Ingram will be 100 percent for 2012.
