Broncos waived RB P.J. Pope.
A street free agent pickup last year, Pope played six games and averaged 7.6 YPC on 17 carries. That looks good on paper but that new head coach Josh McDaniels, a former personnel guru, didn't want to keep Pope says a lot.

Broncos placed RB P.J. Pope on injured reserve with a torn hamstring, ending his season.
Pope became the sixth Denver RB to start a game in Week 16 against Buffalo and appeared headed for a big effort with 42 yards on five carries before the injury. He could get a training camp invite in 2009, but will be in a battle to make the club. Pope's long-term outlook is as no more than a third-stringer.

P.J. Pope rushed six times for 44 yards in the Broncos' Week 16 loss.
Pope was featured early, rushing five times for 42 yards on Denver's first drive. But the Broncos eventually settled into a pass-heavy attack and abandoned the run almost completely other than on Jay Cutler's scrambles. Pope was also sidelined briefly due to a hamstring injury. Pope appears to have emerged as the Broncos' top ball-carrying option, but the offense has become too one dimensional for him to have a truly consistent role.

The Rocky Mountain News confirms that P.J. Pope has seen action with the Broncos' first-team offense in practice this week.
The Denver Post ran a story predicting that Pope and Tatum Bell will take the majority of the Broncos' workload against Buffalo. It's worth noting that during Pope's time in Green Bay the Packers, who use a similar running scheme to Denver's, liked Pope's ability in short yardage. That's never been Bell's strong suit, so don't be surprised if Pope gets goal-line carries on Sunday.

Coach John Fox indicated the Broncos are being intentionally cautious with Knowshon Moreno in his recovery from an offseason stem-cell procedure on his right knee.
The surgery, which is believed to have taken place either in late January or early February, involved the removal of stem cells from Moreno's pelvis. They were then inserted into his right knee. Four months later, he still can't practice. "He's coming along," Fox said. "We're going to be very cautious. When the doctors give him the full-go go-ahead, he'll be doing everything."

Broncos TE Joel Dreessen underwent arthroscopic surgery to "clean up" his knee.
Coach John Fox termed it "just a little knee procedure, scope, done, just to clean it up." Fox added this would be a good opportunity for backup tight end Julius Thomas, who missed most of his first two seasons with injuries, to get quality reps. Dreessen is expected to return for training camp. He is Denver's primary in-line and blocking tight end, ahead of "move" TE Jacob Tamme.
