7/29/2011: Signed a five-year, $41 million contract. The deal contains $18.5 million guaranteed, including a $6 million signing bonus and all of Rice's 2011 and 2012 base salaries. There are indications Rice's body may be letting him down at a young age, but the Seahawks lack the capability of getting out of his high-priced deal if he can't play football in 2012. We don't know that it's even a possibility, but Rice suffered three concussions in a 12-month span and is having both shoulders repaired surgically this offseason. His 2012 cap number is $8.2 million.

Sidney Rice underwent offseason surgery on
both
shoulders, according to Tom Pelissero of ESPN 1500 Twin Cities.
One of procedures repaired a torn labrum. The second one is undisclosed. Along with Jahvid Best, there may not be more of a red-flag injury risk in 2012. Rice's season ended a month early after sustaining his third concussion in 12 months. He's now undergone the two shoulder surgeries on top of a major hip procedure less than two years ago. Despite his obvious talent, we can't recommend buying low on Rice in Dynasty leagues.

Sidney Rice (concussion) underwent shoulder surgery Tuesday that will sideline him for 3-4 months.
Rice tore a labrum in his shoulder the week before the opener and played through the injury for nine games before a concussion ended his season. Though he may be eased into OTAs in May, Rice should be healthy by training camp. This is Rice's second major surgery as a pro, following the 2010 hip procedure.

Seahawks placed WR Sidney Rice on injured reserve with a concussion, ending his season.
Rice had yet to even be officially ruled out for Week 13 before coach Pete Carroll announced his third concussion in the past 12 months would end his season. It's a scary end to what has been a lost first year in Seattle for Rice, and clouds the future of a player who will now have managed to appear in just 15 of a possible 32 games the past two seasons. Still only 25, he remains worth an own in dynasty leagues, but 2012 is shaping up to be a make-or-break season for the towering wideout. Ben Obomanu should see the biggest increase in snaps in Rice's absence, but Doug Baldwin is the best bet for increased production.

Seahawks WR Kris Durham, placed on injured reserve this week, underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.
So there's no truth to the rumor that Durham injured his shoulder when the Seahawks twisted his arm to go on I.R. The 2011 fourth-rounder is facing a six-month recovery timetable, leaving him questionable for an important round of OTAs next spring.

Although he's off crutches and rehabbing at Seahawks headquarters, Mike Williams (fibula) is unsure if he'll ready for OTAs in mid-April.
Williams is determined to get better, faster, and more explosive this offseason, dropping well below his 240-pound playing weight of the past two seasons. That's going to be easier said than done coming off a fractured left ankle and fibula.
