Steptoe, 24, is out for the year after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. He might come back to Cleveland as a camp body in 2010.

Coach Eric Mangini denied a player rep's accusation that WR Syndric Steptoe was injured because the Browns practiced in a driving rain Saturday.
"Seventy-nine other guys were able to practice effectively, and really the play that he was injured on didn’t have anything to do with the elements," Mangini said. The ill communicator has come under fire for over-working his players, and Peter King pointed out that Browns camp was the only one he's seen without a "positive vibe" this summer.

Steptoe probably was going to have a tough time making the team anyway after the Browns spent two high picks on receivers.

Browns WR Syndric Steptoe was carted off the practice field with an arm/shoulder injury Saturday.
Per Mangini policy, the Browns are offering no details on the injury. With the team finally upgrading their receiver depth this offseason, Steptoe is a long-shot to make the final roster.

Browns WR David Nelson (knee surgery) isn't participating in this week's voluntary workouts.
Nelson is still rehabbing his torn ACL, but should be ready for June's mandatory minicamp. At 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Nelson joins Greg Little and Josh Gordon to form one of the biggest receiver trios in the league. With new coach Rob Chudzinski's history of heavily utilizing the tight end, however, it's a poor bet Nelson will approach his 2011 stat line of 61/658/5 as the fourth option in the offense.
