Giants waived C Adam Koets.
Koets signed a three-year deal just before tearing his ACL last November. He ended up having a second operation in August after complications developed. Koets apparently wasn't ready to resume practicing this week. The Giants opted to let him go rather than carrying him on the PUP list the rest of the way.

Giants C Adam Koets is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery.
We're assuming the knee complications are rooted in last year's torn ACL. Koets, a former offensive tackle, has been converted to center entering his fifth season in the league. He was set to open the year as David Baas' backup.

Giants signed C Adam Koets to a three-year, $3 million contract.
Great timing for Koets, who was also placed on injured reserve Tuesday. The Giants are just announcing the deal, but Koets signed over the weekend -- just before tearing his left ACL in Sunday's game. Koets received a handy $360,000 signing bonus, though the injury may cast doubt on his 2011 roster spot.

Koets' 2010 season was off to a strong start with the first four starts of his career and a major role when he didn't run with the first-team offense, but he'll now enter 2011 free agency coming off reconstructive knee surgery. The Giants do have enough offensive line depth to withstand the loss.

"I don't really negotiate my contract in the media," said Nicks. "Let my agent do that. I just play football." The 2009 first-round pick is entering a contract year. The Giants are highly unlikely to let Nicks walk, but his history of leg injuries could compel them to adopt a deliberate pace in talks. Nicks would be a strong candidate for the franchise tag if no long-term deal is reached.
