3/21/2012: Signed a three-year, $9 million contract. The deal contains $4 million guaranteed -- a $1.5 million signing bonus, an initial roster bonus of $1.5 million, and Green-Ellis' 2012 base salary plus workout bonus. Another $1.05 million is available through incentives based on Pro Bowl berths and rushing yards. Green-Ellis is eligible for annual offseason workout bonuses of $200,000 throughout the contract's life. 2012: $800,000, 2013-2014: $2.3 million, 2015: Free Agent

The Cincinnati Enquirer expects BenJarvus Green-Ellis to lead the Bengals in carries this season.
That's carries, not necessarily touches. It's a safe assumption after the Bengals gave BJGE $9 million and were reluctant to give Bernard Scott the ball last season even as Cedric Benson struggled to wheeze out yards. BJGE lacks talent to be an every-down back, however, and we fully expect a timeshare to develop. Both players will be worth middle- to late-round picks in fantasy leagues.

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said Sunday that he envisions BenJarvus Green-Ellis as possessing the ability to be a "three-down player."
"His versatility. His abilty to catch. To protect ... He does it all," Lewis said. "He makes people miss. He’s shown the versatility to do all the things you’re looking for in that guy and he can be a three-down player if he needs to be." The Bengals won't count on Green-Ellis to be a true workhorse, but they believe he can do it if injuries strike. Look for BJGE to be a 12-15 touch-per-game back in Cincy.

According to Pro Football Weekly, BenJarvus Green-Ellis is expected to get the majority of carries in the Bengals' offense.
Green-Ellis averaged 12.8 carries in his final two seasons with the Patriots, and could get a workload similar to what he had in New England. Former sixth-round pick Bernard Scott projects to see an increased role on offense, but has yet to prove he's capable of being anything other than a complementary player.

Bengals OC Jay Gruden envisions a "hot hand" approach in his backfield next season.
"I don't know what it will be," Gruden said of the rotation. "But (Green-Ellis) deserves to carry the ball. (Bernard) Scott deserves more carries. ... If a guy gets hot, he'll get the carries. They both understand that. ... That's going to be worked out in training camp." Although Scott has a stark playmaking edge, Gruden loves Green-Ellis' ball security and ability to avoid negative plays.
