Coach Tom Coughlin was steamed by Nicks' absence from the "voluntary" sessions. "He should be here," Coughlin said after professing ignorance as to why Nicks wasn't present. Recovering from a knee scope, Nicks wouldn't have been a full participant even if he showed. Going into the final year of his rookie contract, Nicks could be looking to avoid further injury, or perhaps signaling that the time to negotiate a new deal is now.

Hakeem Nicks (knee surgery) says he's feeling "as good as I've felt in awhile."
Nicks says he hasn't had "any problems" in his recovery. Working his way back from a "minor" scope, Nicks is expected to be full-go for camp one season after a foot injury wiped out most of his offseason. The knee injury essentially ruined Nicks' year while greatly disrupting the Giants' 2012 offense.

Hakeem Nicks isn't commenting on contract talks.
"I don't really negotiate my contract in the media," said Nicks. "Let my agent do that. I just play football." The 2009 first-round pick is entering a contract year. The Giants are highly unlikely to let Nicks walk, but his history of leg injuries could compel them to adopt a deliberate pace in talks. Nicks would be a strong candidate for the franchise tag if no long-term deal is reached.

Hakeem Nicks (knee) said his goal is to be a full-go for training camp.
Nicks referred to his scope as a "minor procedure," but he's going to take it easy at minicamps and OTAs. Lower-leg injuries have hampered him throughout his four-year NFL career, culminating with an ugly 53/692/3 line in 13 games last year. If healthy, Nicks remains among the most physically imposing wideouts in the league.
