Updating a previous item, Chiefs RCB Sean Smith's three-year contract is worth just $16.5 million in base value.
The cornerback market was a huge disappointment this year. Smith got paid more than anyone, and his lowly $5.5 million annual average doesn't even put him among the league's top-12 corners. Smith received $7.465 million in fully guaranteed money. He can push the deal's max value to $18 million via incentives. Smith will be able to reenter the free-agent market at age 28.

Chiefs agreed to terms with CB Sean Smith, formerly of the Dolphins, on a three-year, $18 million contract with $11 million guaranteed.
The news — first "reported" by Smith's former teammate Vontae Davis two weeks ago — comes via Smith's agent. He joins Brandon Flowers and Dunta Robinson to form one of the league's better cornerback trios, though Robinson could still end up at safety. It's the same failed strategy Andy Reid adopted in Philadelphia, but he's willing to give it a second chance as division-rival Denver transforms itself into an offensive colossus. Regardless of where Robinson plays, Smith will book end Flowers on the outside. The Chiefs might not be ready to compete for a playoff spot, but are going to be a far tougher out in 2013.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are in pursuit of free agent Sean Smith, and Kansas City is "clearly" a viable landing spot.
Smith was expected to be perhaps the hottest free agent on the market when Tuesday's signing period opened, but that turned out not to be the case. Despite the signing of Dunta Robinson, the Chiefs have been lurking on Smith all along. The 49ers and Eagles are already believed to have dropped out of the running. Smith would make a formidable bookend for Brandon Flowers in Kansas City.

A source tells CSN Bay Area that the 49ers are not involved with free agent Sean Smith.
We can now scratch the Niners and Eagles off Smith's suitor list. The Dolphins are interested in bringing him back and there are two mystery teams involved. Perhaps the Bucs would settle for Smith if they can't trade for Darrelle Revis.

There's no word on whether Draughn underwent surgery. A third-year UDFA out of North Carolina, Draughn was serviceable in the Jamaal Charles backup role last season, but will be guaranteed nothing under the new Kansas City regime. He can't afford to miss much time after Knile Davis was drafted in the third round.

Chiefs placed WR Terrance Copper (knee) on season-ending injured reserve and signed WR Junior Hemingway from the practice squad.
Copper, 31 in March, caught eight passes for 79 yards on the season, but he holds more value to the Chiefs as a special teams player. He's under contract for $840,000 in 2013. Hemingway was taken in the seventh round of this past year's draft out of Michigan.

Moeaki has already been ruled out for OTAs, and his status for camp remains up in the air. His roster spot won't be guaranteed after the Chiefs drafted Travis Kelce and signed Anthony Fasano. Moeaki is due $1.32 million in 2013, the final year of his rookie contract.
