Brandon Gibson has been lining up in the slot in Dolphins OTAs.
Gibson was primarily an outside receiver in St. Louis, but the Dolphins are set outside the hashes with Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline. Stone-handed with zero after-the-catch ability, Gibson is not a good fit for the slot, but the coaching staff has to play him somewhere after GM Jeff Ireland foolishly handed out a three-year, $9.755 million deal. The Dolphins would have been better off letting the Jets sign Gibson and keeping Davone Bess through the final year of his contract.

Dolphins agreed to terms with WR Brandon Gibson, formerly of the Rams, to a three-year contract.
The Jets' top free-agent target is taking his talents to South Beach. Gibson, 25, is the latest mediocre talent to join GM Jeff Ireland's burgeoning "Dream Team," and should be slotted into his ideal role of No. 3 receiver behind Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline. Gibson can move the chains and is a threat in the red zone, but offers nothing after the catch and is prone to mental mistakes. His 108 yards after the catch were an absurd 167th in the NFL last season. With just one 100-yard game in 54 career contests, Gibson won't be a major threat for fantasy value as the fourth or fifth option in Miami's pass game. Davone Bess may be done in Miami.

Free agent Brandon Gibson is visiting the Dolphins on Friday, and will head to Tennessee if he leaves town without a contract.
The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero believes Gibson is in the Dolphins' plans at the "right price." The Dolphins have yet to meet a free agent they didn't like. The Jets still have the biggest need for Gibson, and may up their offer if they find Gibson on the verge of signing with Miami or Tennessee.

Free agent Brandon Gibson has left his visit with the Jets without a contract.
NFL free agents are looking for money and a chance to win. The Jets can offer neither. So Gibson is on to a visit with the Dolphins, where he'd slide in as a No. 3 receiver behind Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline. Davone Bess' Miami future is in question. Gibson also has a Friday visit scheduled with the Titans.

Daniel Thomas believes he's a legitimate contender for the Dolphins' starting running back job.
Thomas must not be watching much of his own film. "I don’t know why (Lamar Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said incredulously Tuesday. "It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up." Thomas does admit he's been "inconsistent" since being the No. 62 overall pick of the 2011 draft. All signs suggest the Dolphins want and expect Miller to be their No. 1 back.

"I’m good and ready to go," Clay said Tuesday. Clay should enter the season as the Dolphins' No. 2 pass-catching tight end behind Dustin Keller. Fourth-round pick Dion Sims is primarily a blocker.
