According to the Tampa Tribune, the Bucs don't view Mike Williams as a No. 1 receiver.
Williams' work ethic and physical strength remain concerns after a disappointing season. The feeling is that both Williams and Arrelious Benn are No. 2 receivers, as Benn's speed would be wasted in the slot. If that's the sentiment in Tampa, free agent Mario Manningham would be more of the same as opposed to a solution.

According to Charlie Campbell of Pewter Report, the Bucs' coaching staff believed Mike Williams and LeGarrette Blount slacked off and partied too much during the 2011 season.
The Bucs' 2011 coaching staff has been fired, so they're now free to vent. Blount and Williams were criticized for rarely hitting the weights and training room, and Williams "in particular was a mess." He reportedly "partied a lot at night," fell asleep in the meeting rooms, and purposely lost weight during the season that left him "frail," lacking the strength to fit off cornerbacks' jams. A top-50 talent, Williams fell to the fourth round of the 2010 draft due to concerns with his work ethic and commitment. The Bucs hope to change their team's culture in 2012.

Mike Williams caught just one pass for 31 yards in the Week 17 loss to the Falcons.
Williams was not injured, but saw just two targets. It caps a wildly disappointing sophomore slump for the 2010 fourth-rounder, who went from 11 touchdowns as a rookie to three this year. Josh Freeman's regression is partly to blame, but Williams' rookie performance was a little fluky as well. He'll return as the Bucs' No. 1 receiver in 2012, but he won't be more than a WR3 flier no matter who is coaching the team.

Mike Williams caught four passes for 39 yards against the Panthers in Week 16.
After going for 93 yards against the Panthers earlier this season, Williams struggled to get separation when matched up with Chris Gamble and was seldom targeted by Josh Freeman in the first half. He has now been held to under 40 yards and four catches over the last three games.
