Montario Hardesty rotated first-team reps with Trent Richardson as the Browns opened OTAs.
Richardson will run away with the starting job in training camp, but it's a possible indication that Hardesty is getting a legit chance to win the No. 2 running back spot. His primary competition for that role is third-down specialist Brandon Jackson. Hardesty managed a 3.02 yards-per-carry average in 2011.

ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi hints Montario Hardesty's roster spot could be in danger following the Browns' selection of Trent Richardson.
Injuries have limited Hardesty to 10 games since he was a second-round pick in 2010, and in the words of Grossi, he "doesn't have (the versatility) to play on third down and special teams" that Brandon Jackson and Chris Ogbonnaya do. Hardesty isn't in danger of being waived tomorrow, but that will change if he doesn't have a strong camp. Browns president Mike Holmgren has suggested Richardson will be an every-down back, so either way Hardesty's fantasy value will be nil in Cleveland.

Although coach Pat Shurmur will "look at all options" at running back in 2012, he singled out a "Montario Hardesty that's healthy" as a top priority.
"I think he's hopefully finally getting back," said Shurmur. "This will be one of the first off-seasons he hasn't been dealing with an injury, so that will really help him develop." It's an indication that Hardesty will get a fresh start after knee and calf injuries limited him to just 3.0 yards per on 88 carries. Publicly, the Browns remain noncommittal on impending free agent Peyton Hillis' future.

Montario Hardesty did not play a single offensive snap in the Browns' Week 16 loss to Baltimore.
He's the third-stringer behind Peyton Hillis and Chris Ogbonnaya. Averaging just 3.12 yards per carry on the season, Hardesty appears to have fallen out of favor amongst the Browns coaching staff and front office. It will be interesting to see if Cleveland even risks Hardesty getting injured in Week 17.
