Jaguars waived DE Larry Hart.
The Jags also waived rookie LB Michael Lockley. A fifth-round pick last year, Hart notched eight tackles and two sacks in 14 games. A solid pass rusher, he should be able to latch on somewhere else.

Jaguars signed fifth-round DE Larry Hart to a four-year contract.
The highest drafted player in University of Central Arkansas history, Hart is a smallish 4-3 end with a relentless motor. Jags GM Gene Smith has a strong record with small-school prospects, and Hart is expected to contribute immediately as a situational pass rusher.

The Jaguars plan to use fifth-round DE Larry Hart as a pass-rushing specialist on passing downs.
"He will get sacks for us as a sub rusher," GM Gene Smith said. The Jags were the least effective pass-rushing defense in the league last season, so Hart should find immediate playing time as a reserve defensive end.

Jaguars selected Central Arkansas DE Larry Hart with the No. 143 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
One of the draft's top small-school prospects (a foundation of Jags GM Gene Smith's scouting work), Hart was the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in both '08 and '09, piling up an awesome 31.5 tackles for loss and 21.5 sacks during his final two seasons. He's undersized (6'1/248), but is a high-motor player and should eventually help in sub-packages.

Undrafted Jaguars QB Jordan Rodgers will be sidelined until training camp after undergoing sports-hernia surgery.
Aaron's younger brother, Rodgers is competing with fellow undrafted QB Matt Scott for No. 3 duties. This gives the more-talented Scott another leg up in a competition the Jaguars would likely prefer him to win.

Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) said his goal is to resume full-scale workouts in the month ahead of training camp.
Jones-Drew didn't practice with the Jags during Monday's OTAs. Instead, he ran 30-yard dashes at three-quarters speed. "Lately, it's been one day on, a day off, two days on, a day off — it's part of the process," he said. "I'm closer than I think. I just want to take my time and make sure we do it the right way." Rehab from Lisfranc surgery is nothing to be brushed off lightly. We'll be watching MJD's progress closely as he enters a contract year.

Coach Gus Bradley said he's giving suspended WR Justin Blackmon a clean slate.
Blackmon has two DUI arrests and a four-game substance-abuse violation on his resume since 2010. But none of that occurred while Bradley was in contact with the 2012 No. 5 overall pick. The pair is having regular conversations as Blackmon tries to stabilize his life and career. "He's never done anything wrong with me. It'd be different if I was talking to him and I didn't feel like we were connecting at all. I do feel a connection," Bradley said.

During his first official practice with the Jaguars, Brackett sustained a serious knee injury. The pass-catching tight end will need to regain full speed and burst before he can hope for a 2013 roster spot. The Jags re-signed Colin Cloherty to take Brackett's roster spot.
