Mike Jurecki of XTRA Phoenix reports the Cardinals would like to extend CB Patrick Peterson's contract this season.
Still just 22, Peterson has two years left on his rookie deal. He was burned regularly early in his career, but showed signs of stardom as a sophomore last season. After grading out as the No. 102 corner in Pro Football Focus' 2011 ratings, Peterson checked in at No. 18. He also upped his interception total from two to seven. Peterson will likely seek upwards of $10 million annually.

New Cardinals coach Bruce Arians plans to keep RCB Patrick Peterson on punt returns.
Peterson's punt-return efficiency slipped dramatically in his second NFL season, but the special teams workload has yet to affect his pass coverage. "He can’t get his hands on the ball enough for me," Arians said. "As long as the other team is punting, he’s going to be back there." Peterson averaged 15.9 yards on 44 punt returns with four touchdowns as a rookie. In 2012, his average slipped to 8.4 yards on 51 chances without a score.

Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson is listed as questionable for Week 2 with a groin injury, but is expected to play.
Beat writer Kent Somers considers Peterson closer to probable than questionable despite the "Q" tag. Peterson helped hold Sidney Rice under 40 yards in the season opener. We expect to see him match up with Brandon Lloyd in Week 2.

The Arizona Republic confirms that Patrick Peterson will "often" match up with opposing No. 1 receivers this season.
Peterson shadowed No. 1s down the stretch last season and he held his own. The best preparation Peterson can get is practicing against Larry Fitzgerald. After a promising rookie season, Peterson's play could take off in 2012. We'll be watching him closely as a potential shutdown force against fantasy receivers.

Coach Bruce Arians reiterated that the running back spot is open to competition.
Rashard Mendenhall may be the slight favorite as he had his best years under Arians in Pittsburgh and will be roughly 20 months removed from his ACL tear when Week 1 rolls around. But Ryan Williams, Stepfan Taylor and Andre Ellington will all be in the mix as well. "You really can't tell until the lights come on," Arians said. "Some were different from this morning's walkthrough to the afternoon practice. Until you turn the lights on, you really don't know about them."

The blocking tight end is sitting out OTAs, but sounds like he'll be ready for training camp. He's likely recovering from a scope. A seven-year veteran, King graded out as the third-worst tight end in the league in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season.
