Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio promises to continue moving SLB Von Miller around the formation in 2013.
Miller played linebacker and both defensive end positions in Del Rio's first year on the job in 2012, and ranked third in the NFL in both sacks (18.5) and forced fumbles (6). Miller's tackles also rose from 64 as a rookie to 68. "Von’s role is such where he does a lot -- and he’ll continue to do a lot," said Del Rio. "That won’t change because Elvis (Dumervil) isn’t here."

Broncos SLB Von Miller says the shoulder injury that held him out of the Pro Bowl won't require surgery.
Miller also says he would have played had the Broncos advanced to the AFC Championship Game. "It was an injury I had lingering from my first professional game against the Raiders last year," Miller said. "It hasn’t been a problem. ... I’m going to rest it and rehab it and get big and strong." There's zero reason to worry about the 2011 first-round pick, who will enter 2013 as one of the top five defensive players in the league.

The Broncos boast the best run defense in the NFL since Week 6, ranking first in yards per game (74.8) and YPC allowed (3.4).
Von Miller has been far and away the most dominant run defender at linebacker in the league, and the Broncos have gotten a boost from veteran MLB Keith Brooking on early downs. It's a tough matchup this week for Trent Richardson, who has been held below 3.0 YPC over the past five games.

Broncos SLB Von Miller has overtaken Texans DL J.J. Watt for the NFL sack lead (13) after taking Philip Rivers down three times and forcing two fumbles in Week 11.
"This is the best Broncos defense I've seen," Rivers said after the game. Coming off one of the most dominant three-game stretches we've ever seen, Miller is now giving Watt a run for his money in the defensive player of the year race. He's up to 24.5 sacks in 25 career games. On a team with MVP candidate Peyton Manning, Miller has been the best player on the field of late.

Updating a previous item, Knowshon Moreno (knee surgery) has not been medically cleared for Broncos OTAs.
With Willis McGahee a no-show and Moreno still hobbled, second-round pick Montee Ball will soak up first-team reps during the Organized Team Activities. Moreno is at Denver's Dove Valley facility, but he's not practicing. He's likely to be healed by training camp, but projects as a third-stringer this year.
