Cowboys position coach Gary Brown believes DeMarco Murray has the potential to be an "elite" running back.
Murray's biggest obstacle is health, as he's missed nine games through two NFL seasons. In games where Murray has played, he's averaging 4.8 yards-per-carry with 1,560 rushing yards and six touchdowns. "We all know that the injury bug has bit him a little," Brown said. "We have to keep him healthy, and we'll work to just refine some things. Obviously he is a good, talented runner. We just want to shine up some things and get him to be elite."

DeMarco Murray rushed 17 times for 76 yards in Dallas' Week 17 loss to the Redskins, adding two catches for 10 yards.
It was a strong ending to Murray's injury-shortened campaign, though he was out-shined by Redskins rookie Alfred Morris, who chewed up 200 yards on 33 attempts. Murray finishes 2012 with four touchdowns and 663 yards on 161 carries (4.1 yards per carry). That comes out to 234 fewer yards than Murray gained as a rookie even though he carried the ball only three fewer times. Murray is a legit NFL runner who's proven he can be a vital part of an offense, but the durability issues that dogged him in college have not gone away, as he's now appeared in just 23 of a possible 32 career games. That's not a promising clip for a player who plays the game's most rugged position. 2013 could be a make-or-break season for the former Oklahoma Sooner.

DeMarco Murray is not worried about his recent fumbling issues.
"Doesn't bother me at all," Murray said. "Last week was last week. Two weeks was two weeks ago. I don't worry about mistakes." Murray has lost a fumble in back-to-back weeks, and his one last week against the Saints came inside his own five-yard line and led to a New Orleans touchdown. The Cowboys aren't worried, though, either. Murray has played his heaviest snap counts of the season over the last three games as he returns to full health from a foot injury, and back-up Felix Jones has been kicked to the curb.

DeMarco Murray (foot) is on the Week 17 injury report, but is practicing in full.
Murray is on pace for his first full week of practice since returning in Week 13. Although he's coming off a disappointing game against the Saints' lackluster run defense, Murray should be a strong RB2 option for Week 17, even against the Redskins' tough run unit. The fact that Murray has caught 16 passes in four games since returning should help.

Cowboys signed fifth-round RB Joseph Randle to a four-year contract.
The Cowboys have very high hopes for Randle, despite the fact that he'll miss all pre-training camp activities due to offseason thumb surgery. An adept pass catcher, Randle does little else well. On tape, it was evident his production was spiked by Oklahoma State's wide-open offense in the defense-deficient Big 12.

"It won't keep him out of training camp, but will limit him during (offseason) training," owner/GM Jerry Jones said. With a $1.2 million base salary, Vickers is squarely on the roster bubble.

Owner/GM Jerry Jones says Dez Bryant has "certainly matured."
It's mid-May and we have zero reports of off-field incidents surrounding Bryant. No news is great news for the freakishly talented 24-year-old. "Football means everything to him and he certainly had a lot of growing up to do, probably more so than your average player in the NFL," Jones said. "He's quick to understand that and he's doing that and he's doing it at a real fast pace."

Miles Austin said he is focusing on strengthening his hamstrings this offseason.
Austin played in all 16 games last season, but was consistently bothered by hip and hamstring issues. In 2011, he missed six games with a severe pull. "I'm definitely strengthening my hamstrings a lot more than I have been," said Austin. "Doing a different routine, a couple of extra exercises each day on our leg days."

Cowboys WR Danny Coale is still not medically cleared after tearing his left ACL on the team's practice squad last November.
Coale underwent surgery on December 11 and isn't a realistic candidate for a 2013 roster spot. Injury prone at Virginia Tech as well, Coale also broke his left foot at the Cowboys' first OTA as a rookie. A slot receiver prospect, Coale is targeting the first day of training camp for full medical clearance.

Cowboys WR Tim Benford underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Benford will miss the rest of rookie minicamp and OTAs before returning for training camp. The former Tennessee Tech receiver spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad, and he'll face an uphill battle for a roster spot.
