Jaguars placed CB Rod Issac (hamstring) on injured reserve, ending his season.
A small-school prospect out of Middle Tennessee State, Issac played in three games as a special teamer this season. He'll be back to battle for a similar role next year.

Jaguars signed No. 147 overall pick CB Rod Issac to a four-year contract.
The Middle Tennessee State product is expected to compete for the nickel back job in the Jags' woeful secondary. Whether he can make a quick jump from the Sun Belt Conference to the NFL is another story. Consider Issac a project for now.

The Jaguars would "very much like" fifth-round pick Rod Issac to win their nickel back job as a rookie.
The Jags are enamored by the small-schooler Issac's "aggressive hitting ability," and believe he's a player "with enormous potential." Issac's competition will come from William Middleton and David Jones. Middleton was the team's slot corner last season. Jones is best suited for a special teams-only role.

Fifth-round pick Rod Issac is expected to compete for the Jaguars' nickel back job in year one.
"This is one of the most physical corners in the draft," said GM Gene Smith. "Our corner has to be able to tackle whether you're playing inside or outside, inside meaning the nickel spot." Being a rookie corner that can actually tackle only helps Issac's chances of contributing in his rookie year. But his biggest immediate role will likely be on special teams.

Undrafted Jaguars QB Jordan Rodgers will be sidelined until training camp after undergoing sports-hernia surgery.
Aaron's younger brother, Rodgers is competing with fellow undrafted QB Matt Scott for No. 3 duties. This gives the more-talented Scott another leg up in a competition the Jaguars would likely prefer him to win.

Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) said his goal is to resume full-scale workouts in the month ahead of training camp.
Jones-Drew didn't practice with the Jags during Monday's OTAs. Instead, he ran 30-yard dashes at three-quarters speed. "Lately, it's been one day on, a day off, two days on, a day off — it's part of the process," he said. "I'm closer than I think. I just want to take my time and make sure we do it the right way." Rehab from Lisfranc surgery is nothing to be brushed off lightly. We'll be watching MJD's progress closely as he enters a contract year.

Coach Gus Bradley said he's giving suspended WR Justin Blackmon a clean slate.
Blackmon has two DUI arrests and a four-game substance-abuse violation on his resume since 2010. But none of that occurred while Bradley was in contact with the 2012 No. 5 overall pick. The pair is having regular conversations as Blackmon tries to stabilize his life and career. "He's never done anything wrong with me. It'd be different if I was talking to him and I didn't feel like we were connecting at all. I do feel a connection," Bradley said.

During his first official practice with the Jaguars, Brackett sustained a serious knee injury. The pass-catching tight end will need to regain full speed and burst before he can hope for a 2013 roster spot. The Jags re-signed Colin Cloherty to take Brackett's roster spot.
