Steelers coach Mike Tomlin insists it was his decision to replace former OC Bruce Arians.
"I thought that it was time for change," Tomlin said Tuesday. It's been widely reported that Tomlin was "overruled" by team president Art Rooney II with regards to Arians and the hiring of Todd Haley. Regardless of whose decision it was, the Steelers' offense is unlikely to look drastically different under Haley, who is hardly pass-phobic and could be without lead back Rashard Mendenhall for the majority of 2012.

Steelers RBs coach Kirby Wilson, severely burned in a January house fire, is expected to return to coaching this season.
After sustaining burns on 45 percent of his body, Wilson recently turned a corner in his recovery and is now ahead of schedule. The respected position coach lost out on a chance to take over as offensive coordinator due to the initial uncertainty with his 2012 availability.

Steelers president Art Rooney II "overruled" coach Mike Tomlin on keeping former OC Bruce Arians, according to CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman.
As far as we know, the move is unprecedented for a coach of Tomlin's success level. It's an accepted practice for NFL head coaches to maintain control over their own staff. In one sense, though, it's far from shocking. Ben Roethlisberger reportedly stepped in to save Arians' job two years back. Rooney has been stumping for a return to the Steelers' ground-game roots and more pocket discipline from Big Ben.

Steelers hired Todd Haley as offensive coordinator.
Running backs coach Kirby Wilson would have gotten the job if not for a late-season house fire that left him with burns on 45 percent of his body. While Haley had communication problems as a head coach in Kansas City, as a coordinator in 2007 and 2008 with Arizona he oversaw back-to-back top-12 offenses, topping out at No. 4 in the league in his final season. Haley had Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, and Anquan Boldin, of course, but he will have Ben Roethlisberger, Mike Wallace, and Antonio Brown in Pittsburgh. It's an aggressive hire on Pittsburgh's part. Haley's passing offenses have been up-tempo with lots of shotgun and hurry-up when he's been the main man in charge.

Rashard Mendenhall (torn ACL) isn't prepared to rule out a return for the Sept. 9 season opener.
Mendenhall is still experiencing soreness and swelling in the knee, but he did impress onlookers while running and cutting on the side during OTA practices. "I am not targeting anything," Mendenhall said. "I don't have a time frame. I just want to get back to 100 percent, and right now, I feel good about it. Everything is going well." In the final year of his rookie contract, Mendenhall won't push to return before he's ready.

Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer (broken foot) has begun running and cutting.
Dwyer expects to be on the field for OTAs, though his participation level remains up in the air. Dwyer does still have soreness in the foot, but he insists it's nothing serious. If Rashard Mendenhall (ACL surgery) isn't ready to start the season, Dwyer could emerge as Isaac Redman's top backup.

Steelers RB Baron Batch (ACL surgery) will not practice with rookies and first-year players at minicamp on Friday.
Now nine months removed from surgery, Batch is eligible to practice but is apparently not ready to do so. It's possible the 2011 seventh-rounder suffered a recent setback, as he indicated in late March that he was cleared for all offseason workouts.

Suspended
NFL suspended TE Weslye Saunders four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.
Saunders' resume was a red flag-filled mess coming out of South Carolina last year, and was ultimately the reason he went undrafted. He's now in trouble again. An oft-used blocker after making the Steelers out of training camp, Saunders played about 15 snaps a game and held his own in pass protection. The 23-year-old only caught four passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.
