Bengals second-year CB Dre Kirkpatrick (knee) will be held out of team drills until training camp.
Kirkpatrick's rookie year was washed out by injuries, as he fractured a knee bone last July, experienced tendinitis, suffered a Week 13 concussion, and underwent knee surgery in January. The Bengals are going to take it easy on Kirkpatrick, but he's so far done nothing to quiet the notion that Alabama players are consistently "banged up" upon NFL entry. With Terence Newman back, Kirkpatrick will need a big (and healthy) training camp to win the starting left cornerback job.

A preseason fracture in his knee and Week 13 concussion essentially forced Kirkpatrick to take a redshirt season in 2012. He'll be counted on as a starter in 2013, even if free agents Terence Newman and Adam Jones return. "I'd like to have them back but that doesn't mean Kirkpatrick isn't better than all of them," said defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. "He could be the guy that's playing."

Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick said he was undergoing another knee procedure last Friday.
Kirkpatrick missed the bulk of his rookie season with a bone spur in his knee. The Bengals placed him on injured reserve in late December due to irritation in the same knee. "Indications" are that this surgery is a cleanup procedure as opposed to a major surgery.

Bengals placed first-round rookie CB Dre Kirkpatrick (knee) on season-ending injured reserve.
The move was made to make room for WR Dane Sanzenbacher, who was claimed off waivers from the Bears. After being the No. 17 overall pick in the draft, Kirkpatrick played in just five games, notching four tackles. He should return as a starter in 2013 with Nate Clements, Pacman Jones, and Terence Newman scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in the offseason.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy "highly doubts" both Bernard Scott and Giovani Bernard will make the Bengals' 53-man roster.
In other words, Scott's roster spot is in jeopardy. Bernard obviously isn't going anywhere after being the first running back drafted last weekend. The Bengals re-signed Scott, 29, to a one-year deal last month. Cincinnati will likely keep four running backs: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard, special teams ace Cedric Peerman, and sixth-round pick Rex Burkhead.
