The Steelers are giving second-year OL Kelvin Beachum some reps at center.
Beachum obviously isn't an option to start ahead of Maurkice Pouncey, but it's an opportunity for last year's seventh-round pick to improve his versatility. Beachum started five games at right tackle last season, and he can also play guard. The Steelers let backup center Doug Legursky go in free agency.

Rookie seventh-rounder Kelvin Beachum will start at right tackle at Baltimore with Mike Adams (ankle) out in Week 13.
It's another reason not to rush Ben Roethlisberger back with limited range of motion. Beachum is severely undersized (6'2/303) for an NFL tackle, and Ravens DE Paul Kruger owned Adams in the previous matchup.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert listed G Kelvin Beachum and TE Leonard Pope as standouts from offseason practices.
Beachum, a seventh-round pick in April, is versatile enough that he will eventually be able to play all five O-Line positions. He'll compete for a primary backup job in his rookie season. Pope, 28, is the favorite to back up Heath Miller.

Steelers signed No. 248 overall pick OG Kelvin Beachum to a four-year contract.
Beachum has size (6'2/303) and strength deficiencies, but he's athletic with above-average body control and quickness. On the Board of Trustees as an SMU student, Beachum got high marks from the Steelers for his intelligence and moxie. The coaching staff will try to convert him to guard after playing the blindside with the Mustangs.

Ben Roethlisberger (knee) has resumed a throwing program.
Roethlisberger has been throwing to receivers on the practice field and said that he "could play Sunday" if it were the regular season. He continues to progress ahead of schedule after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery last week. Roethlisberger remains on track to be 100 percent for training camp.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, there's a "strong possibility" Heath Miller (ACL, MCL, PCL surgery) won't be ready for Week 1.
In this scenario, blocker Matt Spaeth would be Pittsburgh's starting tight end. The Trib-Review calls Miller "out indefinitely," despite previous optimism he'd be ready for the opener. He didn't participate in any portions of OTAs. Miller suffered the three-ligament knee tear on December 23 and had reconstructive surgery on January 2. He should be viewed as a TE2 only in fantasy drafts.
