The Giants are grooming third-round pick Damontre Moore to be a hybrid stand-up outside linebacker and down defensive end.
Moore played both 3-4 rush 'backer and 4-3 end at Texas A&M as the Aggies switched schemes during his career. The Giants' current hybrid SLB/DE is Mathias Kiwanuka, though he's moving to end this season. At one point a projected first-round pick, Moore's stock fell due to questionable work ethic.

Giants signed No. 81 pick DE Damontre Moore to a four-year contract.
Although Moore needs work in an NFL weight room, he was a legitimately great college football player, posting eight of his 12.5 sacks against SEC competition last season. As a rookie, he'll be developed as the No. 4 end behind Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Mathias Kiwanuka. Moore is nearly 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds with long arms. He's a likely nickel rusher at worst by 2014.

Giants selected Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore with the No. 81 overall pick.
Moore (6-foot-4 1/2, 250) terrorized the SEC en route to 21 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two kick blocks in 2012. He led the Aggies in tackles (85), impressive for a defensive lineman. Unfortunately, Moore lacks marquee athleticism and explosion, and was exposed at the Combine with a 4.95 forty. He also managed just 12 bench-press reps, suggesting Moore has lots of work to do in the weight room. He does play relentlessly and showed "Joker" traits in college, rushing productively off the edge, to the inside, and as a stand-up outside 'backer. Moore was once considered a top-ten pick. He'll be a rotational rusher behind starters Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul.

NFL Network's Mike Mayock reports that Texas A&M DE Damontre Moore weighed in at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds at Friday's Pro Day.
Unfortunately, Moore suffered a hamstring during the workout and couldn't run another forty-yard dash. So he's standing on his 4.95 from the Combine. We wonder if Moore might have run in the 5s at his new, heavier weight. Moore has packed on ten pounds since measuring 6-foot-5, 250 in Indianapolis.

Hakeem Nicks isn't commenting on contract talks.
"I don't really negotiate my contract in the media," said Nicks. "Let my agent do that. I just play football." The 2009 first-round pick is entering a contract year. The Giants are highly unlikely to let Nicks walk, but his history of leg injuries could compel them to adopt a deliberate pace in talks. Nicks would be a strong candidate for the franchise tag if no long-term deal is reached.
