Broncos exercised CB Bradley Roby's fifth-year team option for 2018.
The $8.526 million option is guaranteed for injury only. The No. 31 overall pick of the 2014 draft, Roby has been a solid contributor, but not quite a star. Turning 25 next month, Roby still has time to improve. With Aqib Talib aging, GM John Elway would very much like Roby to lock himself into the team's future.

9 News Denver reports the Broncos are expected to pick up CB Bradley Roby's fifth-year option.
The option will pay Roby $8.526 million in 2018. Aqib Talib and Chris Harris get all of the ink, but Roby has quietly been a solid part of the Broncos' stellar secondary since being selected in the first round of the 2014 draft. Considering Talib turned 31 in February, the Broncos likely see Roby as the future at the position.

Broncos DC Wade Phillips confirmed Bradley Roby will see time at safety.
"We have a package coming in where he'll play some safety, and we'll work that in the next couple of weeks," Phillips said. The Broncos are intent on making Roby a full-time player after limiting him to nickel duties last year. Roby projects to start over FS Darian Stewart in base sets and remain at corner in sub packages.

New Broncos coach Gary Kubiak is intent on making second-year CB Bradley Roby a near-full-time player.
The Broncos have toyed with the idea of using Roby at safety, just to increase his playing time. He was a nickel corner last year behind Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. "It's just us saying, 'Hey, he needs to be out there,'" Kubiak said. "If that's how we get him out there full time, then that's something we're going to address. I don't want to do too much to him where we take something away from him, but at the same time he needs to be a guy playing 70 to 100 percent someway, somehow."

Jamaal Charles' one-year deal with the Broncos has a $1 million base value.
Another $2.75 million is available in incentives, most related to whether or not Charles is active on Sundays. It's not a surprising deal for a 30-year-old back who has lost back-to-back seasons to knee injuries. The contract also appears to contain zero guaranteed money, meaning Charles will have to earn his roster spot on the practice field. He's no lock to contribute in 2017.

Broncos GM John Elway said fifth-round TE Jake Butt (knee) could be cleared in August or early September.
Coach Vance Joseph claimed Butt probably would have gone in the top two rounds if not for his torn ACL. Butt is about four months removed from the injury and should be at close to full strength by the end of training camp. The 21-year-old could open on the PUP list, but we should see him at some point in 2017.

Broncos signed C Matt Paradis to a one-year, $615,000 contract.
Paradis is back on an exclusive rights tender, but the Broncos could look to sign him to a long-term extension coming off a great season. Paradis is scheduled to be a restricted free agent next spring. WR Jordan Taylor and LS Casey Kreiter also signed their tenders.
