| Pos | Role | Name |
| C | 1 | Joe Thornton ActiveJoe Thornton scored a goal in a 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night. The San Jose Sharks entered the third period of Saturday's hockey game with a one goal lead. In one minute, everything changed. The Blues scored two goals in under one minute to take the lead and the momentum from the Sharks. The Blues never looked back, and Joe Thornton and the Sharks were eliminated. Apr 21 |
| 2 | Logan Couture ActiveLogan Couture will undergo shoulder surgery next week. Couture has been bothered by a left shoulder separation that he has been playing through for a period of time. The 23-year-old forward was 31-34-65 in 80 games this season and 1-3-4 in the five-game opening-round series loss to St. Louis. Apr 24 |
| 3 | Michal Handzus ActiveMichal Handzus battled through a groin strain for the final six weeks of the San Jose Sharks' campaign. Handzus only ended up playing in two playoff games and was considered a healthy scratch for the others. He had seven goals and 24 points in 67 regular season games. Apr 25 |
| 4 | Dominic Moore SidelinedDominic Moore and T.J. Galiardi were not in the San Jose lineup Thursday. They were replaced in the lineup by Michal Handzus and Jesse Winchester. Apr 20 |
| 5 | Andrew Desjardins ActiveWith the return of Logan Couture, Andrew Desjardins was a healthy scratch against the Blues Saturday night. After a fast start due to some quality ice time on the top two lines, Desjardins has fallen silent with only one assist in the past month. He is playing fourth-unit minutes and is no longer a fantasy asset. If you haven't already done so, drop Desjardins. Mar 4 |
| LW | 1 | Patrick Marleau ActiveThe Sharks may have to look to part ways with Patrick Marleau this offseason in order to take the next step. The veteran has spent his entire career - 14 seasons - with the Sharks. Though they've advanced to the postseason in 13 of them, they've has never reached the Stanley Cup, bowing out in five games to the Blues this postseason. Marleau had his worst season in four years, putting up 30 goals and 64 points and was a nonfactor in the playoffs, going pointless. Granted, it won't be easy to move Marleau, who still has $6.9 million left on his deal for two more seasons and a no-trade clause. Apr 24 |
| 2 | Ryane Clowe ActiveThe previously undisclosed injury that Ryane Clowe has been playing through is a groin strain. Clowe still managed to record three points in five playoff games. What's disturbing is that Clowe apparently suffered a concussion at some point during the second half of the season. It's not clear if his concussion corresponded with the time he missed in January due to a facial injury. "He’ll tell you he didn’t have the greatest year," Sharks GM Doug Wilson said. "There are excuses and there are reasons; I think with Clowie there were some reasons." Apr 25 |
| 3 | John McCarthy ActiveJohn McCarthy was promoted prior to Tuesday's game. McCarthy went onto log 13:26 minutes of playing time in San Jose's 6-0 victory. He got a misconduct with just 2:21 minutes left in regulation time. Feb 1 |
| 4 | T.J. Galiardi ActiveT.J. Galiardi (back) returned to action on Wednesday March 28. Galiardi had a minus-one rating in 11:16 minutes of playing time. It was his first game since March 15. Mar 29 |
| 5 | Brad Winchester ActiveBrad Winchester is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Winchester had six goals and 10 points this season after being signed by the Sharks as a UFA in the off-season. He played for the Ducks in the previous season and signed a pro tryout last off-season with the Sharks. Look for him to probably re-sign with San Jose next season. May 20 |
| RW | 1 | Joe Pavelski ActiveJoe Pavelski fractured his foot in the playoffs, but he played through the injury. Pavelski was also dealing with a sprained MCL and thumb ligament injury. That might explain why Pavelski ended up with no points and a minus-three rating in five postseason contests. Apr 25 |
| 2 | Martin Havlat ActiveMartin Havlat scored twice -- including the double-overtime game-winner -- as the San Jose Sharks defeated the St. Louis Blues 3-2 Thursday night in Game 1 of their first-round series. Havlat only played in 39 games this season, but was productive with 27 points. The veteran also has loads of playoff experience. He potted the game's first, then had the winner 3:34 into the second overtime. The winger now has 21 goals -- three in overtime -- in 68 playoff games. Andrew Desjardins recorded the other Sharks goal. Dan Boyle and Ryane Clowe each had two assists. Apr 12 |
| 3 | Daniel Winnik ActiveDaniel Winnik scored for the first time in 44 games -- that's no typo -- in the San Jose Sharks' 2-1 triumph over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. His goal was the game-winner, to boot. The winger has six goals and 20 points on the season. The goal was his first since Dec. 15. The more exciting fantasy option, Joe Pavelski, had the other goal, his 27th, in the first period. Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton and Andrew Desjardins chipped in with the helpers. Mar 23 |
| 4 | Tommy Wingels ActiveTommy Wingels (upper body) returned to action on Thursday after missing five games. Wingels saw action on the fourth line Thursday, alongside Daniel Winnik and Andrew Desjardins. He has little fantasy value with three goals and seven points in 25 points. Mar 23 |
| 5 | Torrey Mitchell ActiveTorrey Mitchell will return to the lineup for Game 1 on Thursday. Mitchell missed Saturday's finale after taking a blindside hit Tursday against the Kings, but says he's "ready to go" now. The 27-year-old has 27 points this year. Apr 10 |
| 6 | Benn Ferriero ActiveBenn Ferriero was a healthy scratch Thursday. He was replaced in the lineup by Torrey Mitchell. Just an FYI as neither player has any fantasy value. Feb 24 |
| D | 1 | Dan Boyle ActiveDan Boyle scored twice in the third period to rally the Sharks past the Kings 3-2. The game had playoff placement implications and as a result of the victory, the Sharks are the seventh seed and will play the Blues instead of the Canucks. Logan Couture and Martin Havlat each registered two assists in the win, while Patrick Marleau scored the other San Jose goal, his 30th of the season. Apr 8 |
| 2 | Brent Burns ActiveBrent Burns played over 20 contests with a lower abdominal problem. Burns needs to be re-evaluated, but now that the Sharks have been eliminated from the playoffs, he'll be able to rest. Burns had a goal and an assist in five playoff contests. Apr 25 |
| 3 | Marc-Edouard Vlasic SidelinedMarc-Edouard Vlasic's knee injury is a sprained MCL, but it will not require surgery. He is projected to be fine for the start of training camp. Vlasic sustained the injury while playing for Canada at the World Championships and won't play for the remainder of the tournament. May 10 |
| 4 | Doug Murray ActiveDoug Murray played through a groin strain in the postseason. Murray had 19 penalty minutes, 10 hits, and nine blocked shots in five playoff games. He doesn't do much offensively, but he's a great defensive defenseman. Apr 25 |
| 5 | Jason Demers ActiveJason Demers sat in the press box Saturday night. He was a healthy scratch against St. Louis. Despite brief flashes of offensive capability, Demers remains unworthy of a fantasy roster spot due to his inconsistency and defensive breakdowns which often get under coach Todd McLellan's skin. With the return of Doug Murray to the lineup, Demers could be looking at an extended stay in the press box. Mar 4 |
| 6 | Colin White ActiveColin White was activated from the IL on Thursday January 19. He returned to San Jose's lineup for the first time since Dec. 26 because of a lower-body injury. White recorded one shot and a minus-1 rating during his 15:20 of ice time. Jan 20 |
| 7 | Jim Vandermeer ActiveJim Vandermeer scored his first goal since March 1, 2011 on Tuesday. Vandermeer has four points in 23 games this season. Needless to say, he has no fantasy value in standard leagues. Mar 7 |
| 8 | Justin Braun ActiveJustin Braun will play for Team USA in the upcoming IIHF World Championships. Braun had two goals and 11 points in 66 games in 2011-12. He also had 46 hits and 66 blocked shots. Apr 28 |
| 9 | Mike Moore ActiveMike Moore cleared re-entry waivers Tuesday. Moore played six games – the first six of his NHL career -- with the Sharks this season, scoring one goal. He played 61 games with Worcester (AHL), recording 20 points. Apr 17 |
| G | 1 | Antti Niemi ActiveAlthough it's purely speculation at this point, it wouldn't be shocking if Antti Niemi ended up being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets this summer. Columbus is interested in shaking things up in goal after enduring three rough years with Steve Mason between the pipes. On the other end, the San Jose Sharks have a fair amount of goaltending depth and an interest in Rick Nash. Niemi would be a significant upgrade for the Blue Jackets, but his fantasy value would also probably take a hit if such a trade took place. Such a move might make a certain amount of sense for both sides, but of course that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Apr 30 |
| 2 | Thomas Greiss ActiveThomas Greiss got credit for the win Saturday night against the Kings. He entered the contest in third period in relief of starter Antti Niemi (23 saves) with the Kings leading 2-0. The Sharks then scored three unanswered goals in the third to steal the game. Greiss stopped six shots in his first action in over three weeks. As far as we know, Niemi was not injured or pulled due to a lack of performance. It just seems that the Sharks wanted to get Greiss some game action. Apr 8 |
