Max Pacioretty, who played in only two exhibition games because of a broken tibia, produced the first and third goals Wednesday night in the Montreal Canadiens' 3-1, season-opening victory over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
The high-scoring left winger made it 1-0 for Montreal when he wristed the very first shot of the season on Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier, who should have made the save. That was at 3:09 of the first period. Pacioretty then found the empty net on a breakaway at 19:29 to seal the deal. Pacioretty, 26, is coming off a season in which he scored 37 goals and should prove to be a valuable fantasy forward once again. Alex Galchenyuk also scored for Montreal Wednesday night. All-star defenseman P.K. Subban drew assists on all three of the Canadiens' goals and was a plus -3 on the night. Oct 7 - 10:11 PM
