The Houston Chronicle expects D'Onta Foreman to cut into Lamar Miller's workload.

The Texans want to reduce Miller's carries after injuries faded his stretch run last year. Foreman doesn't project for standalone value, but should be an upgrade on Alfred Blue as Houston’s No. 2 back.

The Dolphins have asked second-year KR Jakeem Grant to learn outside receiver.

Grant's primary role is on kick returns, but Miami is trying to develop him as more of a gadget player. "I think he's going to be a gimmick guy. He’s always going to be a specialist but there’s no reason he can’t play some series," OC Clyde Christensen said. "I think we all see him having a bigger role and getting more out of him than we did last year. We’re always looking for ways to get him on the field."

Texans signed Washington OLB Joe Mathis.

Mathis (6’2/266) was a two-year starter at outside linebacker in Washington's 3-4 defense, tallying 15.5 TFLs, nine sacks and two forced fumbles before suffering a year-ending foot injury last season. Mathis earned PFF College’s highest pass rush productivity rating with 30 QB pressures in seven 2016 appearances. On tape, Mathis exhibits questionable quickness and overall athleticism, and his college production was limited despite small sample success in his final year. Mathis could be someone to watch if healthy.

Patriots signed Arkansas LB Brooks Ellis.

Ellis (6’2/240) made 41 starts at Arkansas, amassing 22.5 TFLs, two forced fumbles and four interceptions. He graduated as the first ever two-time first team Academic All-American in Arkansas history. A good college player who draws pluses for smarts and reliability, Ellis’ athleticism is sub-NFL caliber with 4.79 speed. He played special teams in three of his four college seasons and could have a future there.

Dolphins signed Michigan RB DeVeon Smith.

Smith (5’11/223) made 26 starts as a four-year committee back, logging a career 495/2,235/22 (4.5 YPC) rushing line and 38/251/1 receiving as an honorable mention All-Big Ten pick in his final two years. Smith completely bombed his pre-draft workouts, running 4.85 at Michigan’s Pro Day with sub-baseline athleticism. Smith runs hard on college film, but he lacks speed and has a limited pass catching resume. He would do well to become another Cameron Artis-Payne.

Bucs signed Laval TE Antony Auclair.

Auclair (6’6/256) was invited to January’s Shrine Game after playing H-back, slot receiver, and tight end in the Canadian college ranks, where he caught only 17 passes during Laval’s nine game 2016 season but averaged 13.5 YPR. While Auclair is an obvious project, he offers ideal NFL size with huge arms (34 ¼"), and reportedly runs a 4.84 forty. Auclair is a practice squad candidate.

Rookie ArDarius Stewart doesn't anticipate a difficult transition to the Jets' offense.

Stewart played in a modernized West Coast scheme similar to the Jets under former OC Lane Kiffin at Alabama. He ran most his routes near the line of scrimmage but is one of the more pro ready receivers. With Brandon Marshall gone and Devin Smith (knee) spending another year on IR, Stewart looks like an immediate contributor in three-wide sets.

Redskins president Bruce Allen says "there's been no decisions made" on if the team will hire a general manager.

"The process, we're going to take our time. We're going to see what we need to add to our personnel department. There's some good quality people available we're talking to." Allen was responding to a report he doesn't plan on hiring a general manager. The Redskins fired Scot McCloughan in March, but there hasn't been much effort to bring in his replacement. Even if Washington adds someone, Allen and Jay Gruden should continue to hold the power structure.

Brandon Marshall said he plans to play two more seasons.

"That's the first time I've said that," Marshall said to the crowd at the NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo. "Two more years and I'm gone." The timeline is not surprising considering Marshall just turned 33 and signed a two-year deal in March, but announcing the decision this early is a bit odd. That said, Marshall was simply responding to a question and clearly did not plan to announce his retirement at the event. It is very possible he changes his mind between now and 2019.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Bills are interviewing Eagles director of college scouting Trey Brown for their vacant GM position.

Brown joins Panthers assistant GM Brandon Beane and Texans director of player personnel Brian Gaine as the known candidates to replace Doug Whaley. Brown spent three years with the Patriots as a scout before joining the Eagles in 2013. He was promoted to his current position last season. No matter who Buffalo hires, new coach Sean McDermott will remain the most important voice in the room.

Jets fifth-round TE Jordan Leggett said new OC John Morton told him he "loves" tight ends and wants to make the position a "go-to" in his scheme.

It is a big but expected departure from ex-OC Chan Gailey, whose offense targeted a tight end just 26 times last season. Leggett does not profile as a dynamic receiver in the NFL, but he should have a good shot at an early role with Austin Seferian-Jenkins suspended the first two games. Even so, the Jets' offense is not good enough to get excited about either player in fantasy.

Jets waived CB John Ojo.

Signed just a month ago, it is surprising the Jets have moved on this quickly. Ojo ruptured his Achilles' last June, so it is possible the injury played a role. Ojo was an All-Star for the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL in 2015.

Dolphins OC Clyde Christensen said Jay Ajayi's receiving skills are "200 percent" better than this time last year.

Christensen was seeing nothing but rainbows and unicorns on Saturday, adding there is "no question" Ajayi will be better this season after spending several minutes praising DeVante Parker, Laremy Tunsil, and Julius Thomas. The passing game is one area Ajayi can improve on his breakout season after averaging just 5.6 yards on 27 receptions. Ajayi was good out of the backfield in college, however, so it will not be surprising if he is able to take a step forward in that department. Already a locked-in RB1, Ajayi could push into the top five if he sees a big bump in targets.

When asked about what Julius Thomas can add to the offense, Dolphins OC Clyde Christensen said, "10, 12 touchdowns."

"That's what he added in Denver," Christensen continued. Thomas caught 24 touchdowns in 27 games playing for now Dolphins coach Adam Gase in Denver, and the tight end said he feels "at home" after being reunited with Gase this offseason. Thomas' touchdown total dipped to four in nine games last year with the Jaguars, the same total Dion Sims managed on limited targets in Miami. If he can stay on the field, Thomas should easily better that total this year.
May 6 - 12:35 PM

Dolphins OC Clyde Christensen said left tackle is sophomore Laremy Tunsil's "natural position."

Christensen added his confidence is "extremely high" Tunsil will succeed at left tackle. Considering they traded Branden Albert during the offseason, the rest of the organization clearly agrees. The Dolphins are set at tackle, but the interior of the line remains a big concern, especially with C Mike Pouncey's (hip) health in question.
