Ubaldo Jimenez defeated the Tigers on Tuesday, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings of work.
He was extremely wild, however, walking six and striking out just two. Ubaldo pitched in and out of trouble all night, with all of the damage against him coming on an Alex Avila three-run homer in the second inning. Jimenez is 5-3 on the season but still has an inflated 5.02 ERA. He'll try to improve his command and find consistency when he takes on the White Sox in Chicago on Sunday. May 22 - 10:38 PM

Troy Tulowitzki's elbow is heavily wrapped, but the shortstop said he'll be fine.

Again, consider him day-to-day. After Sunday's game, Rockies manager Jim Tracy called for Major League Baseball to suspend Ubaldo Jimenez for drilling Tulo with a pitch. Tracy characterized the beaning and Jimenez's challenging of Tulowitzki on the field after it "the most gutless act I've seen in 35 years in the game."

Troy Tulowitzki has been taken to a local hospital for X-rays after he was hit on the left elbow by a pitch from Ubaldo Jimenez Sunday.

If you weren't ready for the regular season, how about some bad blood drama to get your juices flowing? Jimenez plunked his former teammate -- who said 10 days ago that Jimenez should stop talking about the Rockies -- in the first inning and then pumped his chest and approached Tulowitzki, motioning for the shortstop to engage him; ostensibly in fisticuffs. Both benches cleared. Jimenez, for whatever reason, was not ejected, and the Indians refused to allow him to speak to the media after the game. The Rockies are expected to ask Bud Selig to hand down punishment. We'll pass along Tulo's prognosis when it becomes available.

Fausto Carmona will start against against the White Sox on Saturday.

Carmona threw just 41 pitches in a loss to the Tigers on Tuesday, so he'll move up a day in the rotation. Ubaldo Jimenez will be pushed back to Sunday.

A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Reds are targeting James Shields over Ubaldo Jimenez.

Interesting. The Rays have reportedly told teams that Shields is no longer available, but the Reds' wealth of prospects might be enough to change their minds. Shields, 29, is locked up with a series of affordable club options from 2012-2014.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Tuesday that he will not trade either Aroldis Chapman or prospect catcher Devin Mesoraco.

Both were mentioned as players the Rockies were seeking in return for Ubaldo Jimenez, but Jocketty essentially called them untouchable. "There are guys I will not trade," said Jocketty. "I will not give you names. But they’re are certainly guys I will not trade." Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies would want at least one pitcher in return for Jimenez and have asked about Homer Bailey, in addition to Chapman.
