Francisco Rodriguez took his third loss already after giving up a two-run homer to San Diego's Mark Kotsay in his inning of work Tuesday.
Rodriguez obviously isn't thrilled to be in a setup role, and one wonders if that might have something to do with his struggles. He's walked eight and allowed two homers in 12 1/3 innings to start the year. Last year, he had a total of 10 walks and one homer allowed in 29 innings for the Brewers. May 2 - 1:23 AM

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets are "getting more serious about relievers" and have Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Brad Lidge on their radar.

Other Mets beat reporters suggest that they could sign a reliever sometime Tuesday. General manager Sandy Alderson wouldn't rule out bringing Francisco Rodriguez back but indicated it was unlikely. Any of the aforementioned trio of relievers would probably have a leg up to close over Bobby Parnell.

A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that Ryan Madson will lose Type A status under the new collective bargaining agreement.

All remaining Type A relievers, including Madson, Francisco Rodriguez, and Heath Bell, are not subject to draft-pick compensation starting this offseason. Teams that sign them and certain other Type A free agents will not forfeit their draft picks, but teams that lose those players will still receive compensation. Rosenthal also notes that the Phillies will still lose their first-round pick for signing Jonathon Papelbon under the new requirements. Papelbon qualifies as a top Type A free agent.

John Axford picked up his 25th save Sunday despite allowing an unearned run on one hit and one walk.

Just like Saturday, Francisco Rodriguez was used in the setup role and Axford was called upon to close. As long as Axford stays effective, that's the way we expect it to continue, leaving K-Rod without much fantasy value. However, Axford has been far from dominant of late. Any sustained struggles and Rodriguez will be ready to step in.
