Tim Lincecum was charged with the loss Friday after giving up six runs over 5 2/3 innings against the Marlins.
The struggles continue. Lincecum allowed just one run over the first five innings (a solo homer by Giancarlo Stanton) before unraveling in his final inning of work, the big blow of which was a three-run homer by Chris Coghlan. He has now allowed at least four runs in four straight starts and owns an ugly 6.41 ERA through his first 10 starts this year. He'll look for improvement next week against the Diamondbacks. Giants' vice president of baseball operations Bobby Evans reached out to the agents for Buster Posey and Tim Lincecum on Monday.

The Giants inked Madison Bumgarner to a five-year extension on Monday which includes club options for 2018 (club/vesting) and 2019 (club), so the calls were made to send a message that they are still committed to locking up other core pieces. Posey will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter while Lincecum can become a free agent after the 2013 season.

Giants' vice president Bobby Evans said Wednesday that he has had "very healthy" and "ongoing" dialogue with the representatives for Matt Cain about a contract extension.

Cain is already under contract for $15 million in 2012, but he can become a free agent next offseason. "I’m an optimist by nature so you can pretty well gather we’ll do everything we can with all parties to come to agreeable terms," said Evans. "They’ve been very responsive." The Giants are also making an effort to lock up ace right-hander Tim Lincecum, though he remains under team control through 2013.

Matt Cain will start Wednesday against the Phillies.

Tim Lincecum was scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday due to the flu and apparently isn't yet 100 percent. It's possible the Giants could just push him back until this weekend against the Reds.

Barry Zito will officially get the start Saturday against the Tigers.

He'll make the start on three days' rest because of Tuesday's doubleheader, but said Friday that he believes he can throw more than 100 pitches. With Zito going Saturday, Ryan Vogelsong will start Sunday and Tim Lincecum will pitch Monday.
