Twins optioned RHP Liam Hendriks to Triple-A Rochester.
The talented young Aussie entered this season as an intriguing AL-only sleeper pitching in Target Field, but he quickly proved not to be ready for the big leagues. After getting shelled Wednesday against the Angels, his ERA shot to 9.00. The Twins aren't playing for anything this year and they have a few starters who are trade candidates, so it's likely we'll see Hendriks back sometime over the summer. May 6 - 6:53 PM

Scott Diamond is expected to be called up to take Liam Hendriks' spot in the Twins' rotation.

It's no surprise, as Hendriks has posted a 9.00 ERA and 1.89 WHIP over his four starts. Diamond has had a nice year at Triple-A Rochester, boasting a 2.60 ERA and 26/7 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 innings. The 25-year-old possesses little upside, though, and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Nick Blackburn (shoulder) still hopes to start Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Blackburn left his last scheduled start on Saturday due to right shoulder stiffness, but an MRI came back normal. He threw on the field Thursday and has bullpen sessions scheduled for Friday and Sunday. Anthony Swarzak and Liam Hendriks will both make starts this week, but one of them, likely Swarzak, will lose their spot if Blackburn is ready to go.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Scott Baker (elbow) exited a minor league rehab start on Thursday because he "just didn’t feel right" and "couldn't seem to get loose."

Troubling news given that he dealt with elbow inflammation this spring and was limited to just four starts and two relief appearances after the All-Star break last year due to a strained flexor muscle. "Baker just didn’t feel right tonight," said Ryan. "He couldn’t seem to get loose on the mound and instead of pushing the envelope, we decided we would go get him out of the game. We will evaluate him again tomorrow." Stay tuned for an update, but it looks like Liam Hendriks may keep his rotation spot for a while.

Scott Baker (elbow) is scheduled to pitch in a minor league exhibition game Thursday.

Baker was recently shut down due to elbow tendinitis, but he made it through a 47-pitch bullpen session Monday morning with no issues. While he's making progress, it's possible that he'll begin the season on the disabled list. Liam Hendriks is an option for the rotation if the Twins decide to give him extra prep time.
