According to WEEI.com's Alex Speier, the Red Sox will pursue Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
Soler is still trying to gain residency in the Dominican Republic, and must do so before being granted free agency by Major League Baseball. The 20-year-old has also drawn interest from the Cubs, Orioles, Astros, Phillies, White Sox and Indians, among others. He's expected to get a longer deal than Yoenis Cespedes, who agreed to a four-year, $36 million contract with the A's in February. Mar 12 - 12:35 PM

According to Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com, Orioles executive director of international recruiting Fred Ferreira is scheduled to travel to the Dominican Republic in about 10 days to scout Cuban outfielders Yoenis Cespedes and Jorge Soler.

Cespedes traveled to Miami on Tuesday after being granted a visitors visa and is expected to meet with the Marlins on Wednesday. Various reports have pegged the Marlins as the early favorites, but this process could drag on for a little while since the 26-year-old can't officially sign a contract until he is unlocked by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Soler, 19, is also highly-regarded, but will likely begin his professional career at the lower levels of the minor leagues.

Dayan Viciedo told reporters Tuesday that he has tried to recruit fellow Cubans Yoenis Cespedes and Jorge Soler for the White Sox.

"This is actually something about me reaching out to my fellow Cubans and really wishing the best for them," Viciedo said through a translator. "As of right now, they're not signed and I can't tell them which way to go, but I can just give them my advice, especially having come in a similar situation that they're in. And also just tell them how much I would really enjoy having them on the team with us here and how good the organization is. I think it'd just be a great fit." While there's nothing wrong with reaching out to your fellow countrymen, it likely won't matter if the White Sox don't offer the most money. Cespedes told Dionisio Soldevila of the Associated Press on Tuesday that the crosstown Cubs are the team that has shown the most interest in him thus far.
