James Harden scored 35 points during a 107-104 loss to the Mavs on Saturday, adding four rebounds, eight assists, one steal, one block, six turnovers and six 3-pointers in 37 minutes.
He was in foul trouble early with three fouls in the first quarter, but Harden made up the minutes in the second half with 20 minutes. The Rockets can't get it in gear this season and are now on another three-game losing streak to move them to second-to-last place with only the Suns behind them. Harden has tried to carry his team in the last two losses with 41.9 and 42.9 usage rates in the second halves of those games, and he'll likely be even busier to dig his team out of this hole. Even though the Rockets are struggling mightily, Harden is still a top-five fantasy player. Dec 8 - 8:43 PM

Chris Paul (hamstring), Gerald Green (ankle) and Nene (calf) are questionable to play Friday vs. the Spurs.

Friday's game will be the first of a back-to-back set, and an away game, so we'd peg CP3 a bit closer to doubtful for that one. Players tend to like to come back from injuries with preferable matchups, though, so if not Friday, Saturday's home game against the Bulls could be a possibility. If he's out again, Eric Gordon will earn another start with James Harden doing the heavy lifting on offense.
Nov 29 - 1:27 PM

Chris Paul (hamstring) and Gerald Green (ankle) remain questionable to play Wednesday against the Mavericks.

The Rockets didn't host a shootaround this morning, which is the norm for that team, so we won't get a firm update on either of these guys until they're able to go through their pregame routines. Mike D'Antoni made it clear yesterday that he will not rush CP3's return, so if there's any doubt about the health of his hammy, you can bet that he'll be sitting this one out. That would translate to another start for Eric Gordon and a heavy usage for James Harden.
Nov 28 - 2:53 PM

Chris Paul (leg) and Gerald Green (ankle) have been ruled out for Monday's game against the Wizards.

This will be the second straight game out of the lineup for CP3, which will translate to Eric Gordon earning another start with James Harden running the show on offense. The Rockets are simply labeling Paul's injury as a sore leg, so maybe he'll be able to get back out there for Wednesday's game against the Mavericks.
Nov 26 - 5:35 PM

Eric Gordon shot just 5-of-21 for 11 points on Wednesday, adding four boards, three assists and one block in 40 minutes.

Chris Paul was serving the second game of his suspension but he's due back in the lineup on Friday. That might send Gordon back to his typical sixth-man role, which hasn't been nearly as conducive to fantasy value since he joined the Rockets. Then again, Gordon could be gifted another start due to uncertainty about James Harden, who left this game with hamstring tightness. Keep an eye on Houston's injury report.
Oct 24 - 11:49 PM

Eric Gordon will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Clippers, with Chris Paul (suspension) unavailable.

Houston will shift James Harden to PG, so his assists numbers should go up over the next few games while CP3 is out. Gordon should be able to flirt with minutes in the 30s as a starter, while Michael Carter-Williams and Gerald Green could see a slight uptick in minutes.
Oct 21 - 7:37 PM

Chris Paul has been suspended for two games for his part in Saturday's altercation with Rajon Rondo.

CP3 got the lightest suspension out of the group, which makes sense, considering the entire altercation began with Rondo spitting in his face. He'll miss Sunday and Wednesday's games, but he'll be back out there on Friday. Michael Carter-Williams could draw the start in his place tonight, or James Harden could shift over to PG with Eric Gordon entering the starting five. MCW isn't a very attractive option, even as a starter.
Oct 21 - 6:34 PM

James Ennis will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's season opener against the Pelicans, and Carmelo Anthony will come off the bench.

Ennis will be joined by Chris Paul, James Harden, P.J. Tucker and Clint Capela, and that lineup should hold, unless they have serious issues. Melo has talked a lot about embracing the sixth man role, but it'll be interesting to see who's on the floor to close tonight. Ennis isn't a target in most settings, despite the starter tag.
Oct 17 - 6:22 PM

Clint Capela (foot) and P.J. Tucker (back) will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's preseason matchup with the Spurs.

Capela sat out Thursday's exhibition game with a sore foot, but the injury was never believed to be serious and the fact that he'll be suiting up for a meaningless game confirms that. Tucker will be making his preseason debut, which will push Carmelo Anthony back to the second unit. Chris Paul, James Harden and James Ennis will join Capela and Tucker in the starting five today.
Oct 7 - 2:37 PM

Chris Paul, James Harden, Carmelo Anthony, James Ennis and Clint Capela will start in Tuesday's preseason game against the Grizzlies.

P.J. Tucker is out with a minor back issue, so Melo will draw the start, and it'll be interesting to see how he looks with the first-unit. Marquese Chriss could also get some extended run tonight with Nene (calf) unavailable.
Oct 2 - 6:46 PM

The 2017-18 finalists for MVP are LeBron James, James Harden and Anthony Davis.

Davis is also in the running for Defensive Player of the Year, where he's up against Rudy Gobert and Joel Embiid. Harden and LeBron are tough company for the MVP category and there's a general expectation that Harden will go home with the award, but AD certainly made his case, carrying New Orleans into the playoffs after DeMarcus Cousins went down. The winner will be announced in June.
May 16 - 9:02 PM

Trevor Ariza, Chris Paul, James Harden, Eric Gordon and Clint Capela will all be rested for Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Kings.

It's a matchup against the Kings and the Rockets are locked in as the No. 1 seed, so there's zero incentive for any of the main guys to risk getting injured tonight. Joe Johnson and Gerald Green should be busy on offense tonight with all the main guys out.
Apr 11 - 9:05 PM

Chris Paul (hamstring) and Nene will be in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Bulls.

CP3 will be returning from a three-game stint on the sidelines, but he could be very busy tonight with James Harden (rest) taking the night off. Nene will get the start with Clint Capela (rest) sitting, and he'll split minutes with Tarik Black at the five spot, but neither of those guys are very attractive in fantasy hoops. Paul owners shouldn't hesitate to get him active for a favorable matchup against the Bulls.
Mar 27 - 6:25 PM

Chris Paul (left knee soreness) is questionable to play Thursday vs. the Clippers.

CP3 missed time with a left knee issue earlier in the year, so if there's any hint that he's not 100% after shootaround on Thursday, the Rockets may want to play it safe and keep him out despite him saying he's fine. James Harden would shift back to the one with Eric Gordon sliding back into the starting five if Paul sits, and Gerald Green could pick up some extra minutes. Stay tuned.
Mar 14 - 12:04 PM

Eric Gordon started for James Harden (knee) on Sunday, scoring a game-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six 3-pointers, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes.

Mike D'Antoni confirmed before the game that Harden will return on Monday, so this doesn't have lasting implications for Gordon's fantasy value. He came in shooting 41.2% from the field in Houston's previous three games, but that included 15.3 points, 3.3 triples, 4.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 1.0 blocks and a perfect mark at the FT line. He's at his best when Harden or Chris Paul are out of the lineup, but is basically a lock for standard-league value regardless.
Mar 11 - 9:47 PM

P.J. Tucker will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday game against the Heat, with Ryan Anderson (ankle) unavailable.

Joining Tucker in the starting five will be Chris Paul, James Harden, Luc Mbah a Moute and Clint Capela. Through four starts this season, Tucker has compiled averages of 5.3 points, 7.3 boards and 1.3 steals per game on 35.3% shooting, so he's really only a low-end streamer in deep leagues.
Feb 7 - 7:26 PM

Chris Paul (sore right groin) is questionable to play Thursday vs. the Spurs.

Paul was able to get some shots up at Wednesday's practice, but with his long-term health being the primary focus in Houston, he could certainly sit again on Thursday if there's any doubt about his groin. We'll have a better idea on his status following Thursday morning's shootaround, but with Eric Gordon (back) also questionable and Trevor Ariza (hamstring) unlikely, James Harden could again see his usage in the 40s.
Jan 31 - 1:13 PM

Chris Paul (sore right groin) will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Magic.

It's not all that surprising to see the Rockets' play it safe with a matchup against the 14-34 Magic, as holding CP3 out today will give him a full three days off ahead of Friday's game in San Antonio. Eric Gordon will slide back into the starting five with James Harden shifting over to the point, and with both Paul and Trevor Ariza (hamstring) unavailable, Harden's usage rate could go into the ridiculous range.
Jan 30 - 6:20 PM

Eric Gordon lit up the Blazers on Wednesday with 30 points (11-of-23 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), five 3-pointers, five rebounds, three assists and one block in 33 minutes.

He's scorching over the past four games, averaging 24.8 points, 3.5 triples, 6.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals. His numbers are way higher as a starter this season, for obvious reasons, but it sounds like James Harden (hamstring) could be back relatively soon -- Gordon's owners should enjoy the inflated production while it lasts.
Jan 11 - 12:44 AM

Gerald Green came off the bench for 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, one block and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes vs. Portland on Wednesday.

Green came in averaging 17.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals and a whopping 4.1 triples per game for Houston, while hitting 51.3% FGs and 90.9% FTs. Even so, he said he's still getting up to speed. "My conditioning is picking up pretty quick," he said. "I give myself another week or two, I think I should be right there." Tonight's supporting stats were a nice twist, and he's a staple of fantasy lineups at least until James Harden is healthy -- and maybe beyond.
Jan 11 - 12:43 AM

Dennis Schroder hit 10-of-23 FGs and 7-of-8 FTs during Sunday's road loss, scoring 27 points with five assists, three rebounds and two turnovers in 33 minutes.

Schroder continues to thrive when he attacks the basket, and his 10.2 points off drives this season ranks second in the NBA behind only James Harden (11.5). He settled for too many outside jumpers tonight, but it was the other end of the court that cost the Hawks -- they were out-scored 56-40 in the paint, and gave up 42 points in transition. Defensive issues aside, Schroder should have another big game vs. the short-handed Clippers on Monday.
