James Harden took a hit to his right wrist on Sunday, but continued to play and finished with 34 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block in 37 minutes.
Gorgui Dieng committed a hard foul on Harden and he was favoring the wrist afterward, but he stayed in the game and was terrific down the stretch. He finished 9-of-18 from the field and a pristine 14-of-14 from the line, helping Houston earn a 129-120 road win -- they're now a full 3.0 games ahead of Golden State for the No. 1 seed. We're leaving Harden off the injury report, but cautious owners should still confirm his status prior to Tuesday's game in Portland. Mar 18 - 10:04 PM

Chris Paul (left knee soreness) is questionable to play Thursday vs. the Clippers.

CP3 missed time with a left knee issue earlier in the year, so if there's any hint that he's not 100% after shootaround on Thursday, the Rockets may want to play it safe and keep him out despite him saying he's fine. James Harden would shift back to the one with Eric Gordon sliding back into the starting five if Paul sits, and Gerald Green could pick up some extra minutes. Stay tuned.
Mar 14 - 12:04 PM

Eric Gordon started for James Harden (knee) on Sunday, scoring a game-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting with six 3-pointers, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes.

Mike D'Antoni confirmed before the game that Harden will return on Monday, so this doesn't have lasting implications for Gordon's fantasy value. He came in shooting 41.2% from the field in Houston's previous three games, but that included 15.3 points, 3.3 triples, 4.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 1.0 blocks and a perfect mark at the FT line. He's at his best when Harden or Chris Paul are out of the lineup, but is basically a lock for standard-league value regardless.
Mar 11 - 9:47 PM

P.J. Tucker will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday game against the Heat, with Ryan Anderson (ankle) unavailable.

Joining Tucker in the starting five will be Chris Paul, James Harden, Luc Mbah a Moute and Clint Capela. Through four starts this season, Tucker has compiled averages of 5.3 points, 7.3 boards and 1.3 steals per game on 35.3% shooting, so he's really only a low-end streamer in deep leagues.
Feb 7 - 7:26 PM

Chris Paul (sore right groin) is questionable to play Thursday vs. the Spurs.

Paul was able to get some shots up at Wednesday's practice, but with his long-term health being the primary focus in Houston, he could certainly sit again on Thursday if there's any doubt about his groin. We'll have a better idea on his status following Thursday morning's shootaround, but with Eric Gordon (back) also questionable and Trevor Ariza (hamstring) unlikely, James Harden could again see his usage in the 40s.
Jan 31 - 1:13 PM

Chris Paul (sore right groin) will not suit up for Tuesday's game against the Magic.

It's not all that surprising to see the Rockets' play it safe with a matchup against the 14-34 Magic, as holding CP3 out today will give him a full three days off ahead of Friday's game in San Antonio. Eric Gordon will slide back into the starting five with James Harden shifting over to the point, and with both Paul and Trevor Ariza (hamstring) unavailable, Harden's usage rate could go into the ridiculous range.
Jan 30 - 6:20 PM

Eric Gordon lit up the Blazers on Wednesday with 30 points (11-of-23 FGs, 3-of-4 FTs), five 3-pointers, five rebounds, three assists and one block in 33 minutes.

He's scorching over the past four games, averaging 24.8 points, 3.5 triples, 6.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals. His numbers are way higher as a starter this season, for obvious reasons, but it sounds like James Harden (hamstring) could be back relatively soon -- Gordon's owners should enjoy the inflated production while it lasts.
Jan 11 - 12:44 AM

Gerald Green came off the bench for 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, one block and three 3-pointers in 32 minutes vs. Portland on Wednesday.

Green came in averaging 17.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 0.7 steals and a whopping 4.1 triples per game for Houston, while hitting 51.3% FGs and 90.9% FTs. Even so, he said he's still getting up to speed. "My conditioning is picking up pretty quick," he said. "I give myself another week or two, I think I should be right there." Tonight's supporting stats were a nice twist, and he's a staple of fantasy lineups at least until James Harden is healthy -- and maybe beyond.
Jan 11 - 12:43 AM

Dennis Schroder hit 10-of-23 FGs and 7-of-8 FTs during Sunday's road loss, scoring 27 points with five assists, three rebounds and two turnovers in 33 minutes.

Schroder continues to thrive when he attacks the basket, and his 10.2 points off drives this season ranks second in the NBA behind only James Harden (11.5). He settled for too many outside jumpers tonight, but it was the other end of the court that cost the Hawks -- they were out-scored 56-40 in the paint, and gave up 42 points in transition. Defensive issues aside, Schroder should have another big game vs. the short-handed Clippers on Monday.
Jan 8 - 1:08 AM

Gerald Green came off the bench for a game-high 27 points in 28 minutes on Wednesday, making 9-of-15 shots with seven 3-pointers, six rebounds, two assists and one block.

Impressive. Eric Gordon is starting while James Harden (strained hamstring) recovers, which leaves a big hole in the Rockets' second unit -- enter Gerald Green. The shoot-first swingman is averaging 18.3 points, 4.3 triples, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 steals over the past three games, on combined 19-of-32 shooting. That efficiency is unsustainable, of course, but he has a green light on offense and is worth grabbing if you need scoring and perimeter shooting.
Jan 3 - 10:41 PM

As expected, Eric Gordon will start at shooting guard in place of James Harden (hamstring) Wednesday vs. Orlando.

The Rockets announced on Monday that Harden has suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain and will be re-evaluated in two weeks. Gordon will get at least two weeks worth of starts, sharing the backcourt with Chris Paul. Gordon has started 16 games this season and is averaging 22.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in those 16 contests.
Jan 2 - 1:04 PM

Trevor Ariza made 9-of-15 shot attempts with six 3-pointers during Sunday's double-OT victory, scoring a season-high 26 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Happy New Year! It's the fourth time all season that Ariza has scored 20+ points, and he did his damage in 45 minutes tonight. The veteran sharp-shooter could take on a bigger offensive workload if James Harden misses games -- Harden exited late in the fourth quarter after pulling his left hamstring. Gerald Green and Eric Gordon would also stand to gain without Harden, but it would take a complete team effort.
Jan 1 - 12:01 AM

Gerald Green, who scored 18 points on Friday, finished Sunday's home victory with 10 points, three rebounds, two steals and two 3-pointers off the bench.

Green played 22 minutes and could emerge as a source of points and 3-pointers if James Harden's left hamstring injury costs him any time. When Harden is active, however, Green is just a perimeter specialist in deep leagues.

Chris Paul (groin) is doubtful to play on Christmas Day in Oklahoma City, but coach Mike D'Antoni said he's "not too far away."

Groin injuries can be tricky, and the doubtful tag suggests that the Rockets are leaning towards playing it safe with their 32-year-old point guard, but owners can expect to get another update following Monday morning's shootaround. If CP3 is forced to spend his second straight game on the sidelines, Eric Gordon would have another opportunity to start and James Harden would continue to be ridiculous.
Sun, Dec 24, 2017 05:56:00 PM

Chris Paul racked up a season-high 31 points on Wednesday, making 10-of-18 FGs and 6-of-6 FTs with 11 assists, seven rebounds, five 3-pointers and two steals in 35 minutes.

The Rockets have yet to lose with CP3 in the lineup, going a pristine 12-0 including 11 straight victories. They pulled away tonight with a 25-0 run in the first half, and cruised to an easy win despite a human performance from MVP candidate James Harden, who had 21 points on 8-of-22 shooting, eight assists, four rebounds, three 3-pointers, one steal and one block. Friday night's showdown between the Spurs and Rockets should be required viewing for NBA fans.
Thu, Dec 14, 2017 01:27:00 AM

Chris Paul (bruised left knee) is being listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Kings.

This is not surprising at all considering head coach Mike D'Antoni said that CP3 was "playing on one leg" during Tuesday's season opener, so we doubt he'll take the floor tonight with a matchup against a team that the Rockets should be able to beat without his services. Assuming Paul watches Wednesday's game from the sidelines, James Harden will likely shift back over to the one, with Eric Gordon starting at the two-spot.

Chris Paul dished out seven assists in his Rockets preseason debut on Tuesday vs. the Thunder with 11 points, two rebounds, two steals and two 3-pointers in 24 minutes.

James Harden had 16 points and 10 assists and the two superstars were clearly in sync from the opening whistle -- their first play of the game was a Paul steal and dish to Harden in the corner for a triple. The early returns look very positive for Houston and this offense is going to be lethal in real life and in fantasy as they made 24-of-55 3-pointers. CP3 is shaping up to be a great value in the second round of drafts.

Houston Rockets acquired G Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for G Patrick Beverley, G Lou Williams, F Sam Dekker, F/C Montrezl Harrell, G DeAndre Liggins, G Darrun HIlliard, F Kyle Wiltjer, a 2018 top-3 protected first-round pick and cash.

Paul reportedly informed that Clippers that he was going to sign with the Rockets as a free agent, which forced the Clippers to execute this deal rather than lose him for nothing. CP3's value should hold steady playing in Houston's uptempo offense, while James Harden should spend a bit more time playing off the ball, meaning Harden's assist numbers could take a slight hit although his scoring could increase. Paul is opting into the final year of his contract, so he'll hit free agency again in 2018.
Wed, Jun 28, 2017 11:48:00 AM

James Harden has reportedly been prodding Houston management to make a strong push for signing Chris Paul as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Harden has also reached out to CP3 directly, and Houston has reportedly emerged as an "increasingly serious threat" to lure Paul away from Los Angeles during free agency. In order for the Rockets to create the cap space necessary to bring in CP3, they'll need to part ways with guys like Patrick Beverley, Ryan Anderson and Lou Williams. The Spurs are another team that will be contending for Paul's services, and should CP3 opt to leave the Clippers, he'd be leaving roughly $50 million on the table.

Troy Williams thrived as a starter in place of James Harden (illness) on Sunday, scoring a season-high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting with six 3-pointers, five rebounds, three assists and one steal in 39 minutes.

Not a bad debut for Williams, who was acquired by the Rockets in March but had yet to crack the rotation. Harden is day-to-day and Houston's rotation is too crowded to expect much from Williams, but he's at least given Mike D'Antoni something to think about. Pat yourself on the back if you owned him tonight.

Patrick Beverley (ankle) scored a career-high 26 points in 35 minutes during Sunday's game, going 11-of-19 from the field with four 3-pointers, eight rebounds and nine assists.

Bev was loving life without James Harden tonight, soaking up extra touches and making the most of them in a 123-116 win vs. the Suns. He came in ice-cold from the field, going 35.3 percent in March, so maybe this will get him going. With Harden day-to-day, however, we're not expecting any repeat performances.
