Jimmy Butler (groin) will not play Wednesday against the Nets.
He suffered the injury on Monday and did not return. Butler's MRI only revealed "nothing significant" and it doesn't sound like he will be out for long. With him out, it will likely be Landry Shamet getting the start after starting the third quarter on Monday, and we should see Furkan Korkmaz get time off the bench. Ben Simmons becomes an attractive DFS play, too. Dec 12 - 4:46 PM

Ben Simmons racked up 19 points (8-of-10 FGs, 3-of-8 FTs), 12 rebounds, six assists and two steals in 37 minutes during Sunday's win vs. Memphis.

There were more minutes at PF for Simmons due to Wilson Chandler's absence with a quad bruise, but he's producing no matter where he lines up. He's quickly adjusted to the arrival of Jimmy Butler and in the past seven games he averaged 18.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, 8.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks, while shooting 60.2% from the field. Ignore his free-throw woes and that's the fantasy gold you mined for on draft day.
Dec 2 - 8:47 PM

Josh Okogie could see his role reduced in the aftermath of the Jimmy Butler trade.

Okogie is a shooting guard and the Wolves still have Andrew Wiggins and now have Robert Covington, both of whom can play the position, though they are small forwards by trade. It does help him that Wiggins is currently dealing with a quad injury. Okogie could have become a must-own player had the Wolves moved Butler without bringing a solid wing back, but as it stands he's just a borderline fantasy own in deep leagues, depending on how Tom Thibodeau uses him.
Nov 10 - 1:17 PM

The Clippers have reportedly "resisted" including Tobias Harris in any potential deal for Jimmy Butler.

Butler mentioned the Clippers as one of the teams on his wish list, and a guy like Harris would likely give Tom Thibodeau some incentive to pull the trigger on a deal, but that wouldn't make much sense for the standpoint of Los Angeles. The Clippers will have enough space to be able to sign Butler (and another max-level player) as a free agent, so why give up assets now? Harris is in a contract year, but he'd like to finish the year with the Clippers.
Nov 8 - 9:59 AM

Josh Okogie started on Sunday in place of Jimmy Butler (personal, rest), scoring six points with three rebounds, one assist and one 3-pointer.

Okogie made 2-of-8 shots in 30 minutes of action, which was second only behind Andrew Wiggins for either team tonight. Tom Thibodeau loves him and his emergence is one of the few bright spots for the 4-6 Wolves in the early going this season. He's already a steals specialist and could be worth owning everywhere depending what happens with Jimmy Butler.
Nov 4 - 11:23 PM

Josh Okogie started on Wednesday and racked up 10 points (4-of-5 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), four rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist in 37 minutes.

Jimmy Butler refused to play in this game and seems willing to force the Wolves' hand for a trade. Thus far, coach/president Tom Thibodeau has staunchly refused to deal Butler without getting win-now talent in return, and Okogie's rest-of-season value hinges almost entirely on what happens in this scenario. He's just a speculative stash in most formats.
Oct 31 - 11:24 PM

Derrick Rose erupted for a career-high 50 points during the Wolves' 128-125 win on Wednesday, making 19-of-31 FGs and 8-of-11 FTs with eight 3-pointers, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block in 41 minutes.

It's a great story and D-Rose was crying as he conducted a post-game interview, having played the hero role after a rocky few seasons. He's claimed a major role with the Wolves and his position in Tom Thibodeau's rotation might be the best possible scenario for his fantasy value. That said, Jeff Teague (left knee contusion) was out tonight, Tyus Jones was a late scratch with right foot soreness, and Jimmy Butler (personal) wasn't active, so the stage was set for Rose to claim tons of usage. Tom Thibodeau deployed Rose as his starting PG but there's no reason to think that will stick since Teague and Jones are both day-to-day.
Oct 31 - 11:01 PM

The aggregate restriction for Marquese Chriss and Brandon Knight has been lifted and both players can now be traded.

The Rockets are reportedly offering Chriss, Knight and four future first-round picks in a package for Jimmy Butler, but Minnesota management doesn't appear to be all that interested in such a deal. The Wolves would like to remain competitive after trading Butler, and they're also reluctant to trade him to a Westcoast rival, so it'll be tough for Houston to pull this off. Right now, Miami seems like a frontrunner, but Philadelphia could also put together an intriguing package should they jump into the race.
Oct 31 - 10:48 AM

The Rockets are reportedly unwilling to include P.J. Tucker in a trade that would net them Jimmy Butler.

Minnesota reportedly reached out to Houston on Tuesday morning after Miami deal fell through, and they are reportedly seeking a package that would include Eric Gordon, Tucker and some draft picks. As of right now, Miami and Houston appear to be the frontrunners in the Butler sweepstakes, and it sounds like they're playing hardball, as Minnesota has very little leverage. To be clear, nothing is imminent.
Oct 10 - 10:47 AM

Andrew Wiggins had six points, five rebounds and four personal fouls in 24 minutes vs. Milwaukee on Sunday.

Wiggins is set up for an offensive resurgence if (or when) Jimmy Butler is traded. The issues for him have been inconsistency and limited supporting stats, and we've seen that again this preseason -- through four games he's shooting 36.4% from the field with 3.0 rebounds, 0.5 triples, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.7 blocks. Still, as a potential 20+ point scorer he has definite upside in points leagues.
Oct 7 - 10:40 PM

Tyus Jones came alive late in Wednesday's preseason loss vs. the Clippers, making 4-of-9 FGs and 4-of-4 FTs for 12 points, two rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes.

Derrick Rose started alongside Jeff Teague tonight, but it was nice to see Tyus gain some momentum late in the game -- now is the time with Jimmy Butler sitting out the preseason. He's worth a late-round flier due to the sheer uncertainty of Minnesota's rotations.
Oct 4 - 1:18 AM

The Bucks have reportedly not had any "substantive talks" with the Timberwolves regarding Jimmy Butler.

Per sources of Matt Velazquez of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal, no players have been put on the table and there has been no dialogue between the two teams. There were whispers when the initial Jimmy news broke that the Bucks may want to get in the race, but the Bucks have a good thing going in Milwaukee and it wouldn’t make sense to disrupt their chemistry for what would likely be a one-year rental.
Oct 3 - 12:29 PM

The Nets are "not in active talks" about a trade for Jimmy Butler, according to Brian Lewis of the NY Post.

According to the report, "no deal [sending Butler to Brooklyn] is imminent or even likely." Assuming that remains the case, the Nets are prepared to move forward with a group of wing players that includes Caris LeVert, Allen Crabbe, DeMarre Carroll and Joe Harris. Crabbe and Harris could spend more time on the court together this season, too, and Crabbe proved last season that he only needs 28-30 minutes to help owners in roto leagues.

The Suns are reportedly interested in Jeff Teague and Tyus Jones.

They're still looking for a starting point guard, and if Goran Dragic is included in part of the Jimmy Butler trade, that would make one of the other Minnesota point guards expendable. Pheonix is willing to be the third team here to help facilitate a deal if they can nab a starting PG, and Sacramento is also willing to get involved if they can sneak a first-rounder. Teague or Jones in Phoenix would be fantasy gold.
Sep 26 - 1:31 PM

According to a source close to Josh Richardson, there has been "no indication" from the Miami front office that he'll be included in a deal for Jimmy Butler.

Richardson may be the most attractive asset on Miami's roster, but their reluctance to trade him is likely why we haven't seen a deal go down yet. You have to give up something to get a player of Jimmy Butler's caliber, but so far, the Heat aren't budging on Richardson. It's no secret Miami has been shopping Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic, but neither of those guys would make much sense in Minnesota.
Sep 26 - 1:25 PM

The Kings are reportedly interested in acquiring Gorgui Dieng to help facilitate the Jimmy Butler deal.

The Timberwolves have been rather adamant about including Dieng and the three years and $48 million left on his contract in any Jimmy Butler deal, and the Kings have made it known to Minnesota and their suitors that they'd be happy to take on a few bloated contracts in exchange for a future first-rounder. Sacramento also is holding the expiring deals of Zach Randolph, Iman Shumpert and Kosta Koufos, so they're uniquely positioned to help facilitate a blockbuster trade involving Butler.

The Clippers are "emerging as a front-runner" to sign Kawhi Leonard in free agency next summer, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

Leonard hasn't even had an official practice with the Raptors and he's already rumored to be headed elsewhere, but a lot can happen before next July. The Clippers are reportedly a favored landing spot for Butler, who may be hoping to join Kawhi or another max free agent -- the Clippers can accommodate two max salaries. For now, fantasy owners should focus on Kawhi's health and willingness to compete for the Raptors in 2018-19.

Karl-Anthony Towns won't sign his rookie extension until the Jimmy Butler situation is resolved.

KAT and the Wolves have until the end of October to agree to a contract extension, otherwise KAT will be a restricted free agent come July. Obviously, he is incredibly important to the future of the Wolves franchise, considering he just made third team All-NBA at 22 years old. The Wolves would match any deal if KAT signed an offer sheet next summer, but if they don't resolve the Jimmy Butler situation to his liking, will he sign the qualifying offer instead? Lots of moving parts here as training camp is set to begin.
Sep 17 - 12:43 PM

Nemanja Bjelica had another rough night on Sunday, playing 26 minutes to finish with seven points on 2-of-7 shooting, five rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Bjelica added one 3-pointer with 2-of-2 free throws, so it could have been worse, but fantasy owners should have moved on by now. He's scored double-digit points just three times in the past nine games, and with Jimmy Butler (knee) nearing a return the clock is ticking for his starting job.
Apr 1 - 9:56 PM

Aaron Brooks (illness) is expected to be available on Thursday vs. Milwaukee.

Even with Jeff Teague (knee) out, Brooks isn't guaranteed to play. Look for Tyus Jones, Jamal Crawford, and even Jimmy Butler to spend time handling the rock.
