Karl-Anthony Towns and the Wolves have agreed to a five-year, $190 million super-maximum extension, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.com.
He's the toast of the Towns. In what has been a week of bad news in Minnesota, the Wolves finally lock up one of the best young players in the NBA. Despite some controversy, there was almost no doubt that the Wolves were going to sign Towns because it's almost impossible for KAT to turn down this type of money. Sure, he's been the most durable player in the NBA with his 82-82-82 games-played log per season, but now he has financial security for life. With Jimmy Butler headed out of town, KAT is likely set for a career year after he's improved his efficiency, free throw rate and several other stats in each of his three seasons. He's locked in as a top-two pick in fantasy leagues in basically all formats. Sep 22 - 8:50 PM

Jimmy Butler has formally requested to be traded away from Minnesota.

Wow. Butler presented Minnesota management with a list of 1-3 teams that he'd be interested in signing a contract extension with, and one of those teams is assuredly the Lakers. The Wolves will likely want to get rid of Butler prior to camp, so things could move somewhat quickly here, as his value will decline throughout the year. With Butler set to leave Minnesota, Luol Deng could potentially open the year as a starter and both Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns should see a nice uptick in usage. Jeff Teague should also spend more time running the offense sans Jimmy. Butler will be an elite asset wherever he winds up, but he does have a history of having trouble staying on the court.

Terry Rozier and the Celtics have until October 15, the day before the start of the regular season, to agree to a contract extension.

Rozier, who gave the Celtics a needed boost during the team's run to the Eastern Conference Finals, will be a restricted free agent next summer if the two sides can't agree to a deal. He's one of many players heading into the final guaranteed season of their rookie deals, a list that includes the likes of Karl-Anthony Towns, Kristaps Porzingis, Myles Turner and Bobby Portis. Rozier's coming off of his best season as a pro, having averaged 11.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, but the question now is how his production will be impacted by Kyrie Irving's return.

Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau wants to add wing players and 3-point shooters during the offseason.

"We do have to take more [three-pointers], and that's something we're going to work on," Thibodeau said. Minnesota ranked dead last in 3-point attempts during both the regular season and the playoffs, so this isn't exactly shocking. Karl-Anthony Towns was actually their most accurate shooter from the perimeter, at 42.1%, and Nemanja Bjelica was the only other player above 37.0%. Bjelica is a restricted free agent, while Jamal Crawford has a $4.5 million player option, and if both guys leave the Wolves will be even more desperate for shooters.

Tom Thibodeau said on Tuesday that Jimmy Butler (right knee) has been "moving along pretty well" in his rehab from meniscus surgery.

While Butler still isn't jumping, he has progressed to running on an anti-gravity treadmill, which is a small step in the right direction. He's currently about mid-way through Week-2 of his rough 4-6 week timetable, and if all goes well, he could potentially make it back to the court for Minnesota's home game against Memphis on March 26. Nemanja Bjelica will continue to hold down the fort in his absence, with Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Jeff Teague doing more on offense.

Jimmy Butler (knee) is doubtful to play Wednesday vs. Portland.

It looks like Butler will be spending his third straight game on the sidelines tonight, which will result in Nemanja Bjelica earning another start with Andrew Wiggins, Jeff Teague and Karl-Anthony Towns being asked to step it up on the offensive end. Wednesday will be the first game of a back-to-back set, so with no practice time in between Wednesday and Thursday's games, it wouldn't be surprising to see Butler miss both of these.

Gorgui Dieng stepped up with Karl-Anthony Towns in foul trouble on Wednesday, notching a season-high 19 points with six rebounds, five assists, four steals and one 3-pointer in 37 minutes.

When asked about his strong play vs. DeMarcus Cousins tonight, Dieng replied, "I'm not gonna let anyone bully me." The minutes, assists and steals were also season-highs, and this was the first time since Nov. 8 that Dieng has played more than 20 minutes, so take it with a grain of salt. Most owners can just watch him over the next few games, in case his role expands.

Tyus Jones will move into the starting lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Suns, with Jeff Teague (Achilles) unavailable.

Jones looked great in 30 minutes off the bench on Friday night sans Teague, putting up eight points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals, two triples and three turnovers, so he'll be a popular DFS play today in his first career start. Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins, Taj Gibson and Karl-Anthony Towns will join Jones in the starting five today, and Butler should see some increased playmaking opportunities with Teague watching from the sidelines.

Gorgui Dieng (sprained right index finger) and Cole Aldrich (sprained left ankle) are questionable to play Monday vs. Utah.

Dieng sat out Saturday's game against the Suns, which resulted in Karl-Anthony Towns and Taj Gibson getting all the burn they could handle with Nemanja Bjelica seeing a slight uptick in minutes. It'll be more of the same if Dieng can't give it a go on Monday night, and we should get another update on his status following Monday morning's shootaround.

Gorgui Dieng logged 21 minutes on Wednesday, scoring eight points on 4-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and two steals.

The Wolves' five-game win streak was snapped tonight, and Dieng didn't help his case for more playing time with a plus/minus rating of -19. The recent success of the Karl-Anthony Towns/Taj Gibson frontcourt is worrisome, and Dieng isn't a standard-league option unless injuries thin out Minnesota's frontcourt.

Taj Gibson made his Wolves' regular-season debut on Wednesday, scoring six points on 3-of-11 shooting with four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 27 minutes.

Tom Thibodeau said before the game that having Gibson extend his 3-point range is important, because it's become "an essential part of the game." Taj finished 0-of-2 from deep tonight, but it sounds like he'll be encouraged to fire away as the season continues. He's still just a low-end big man while Karl-Anthony Towns and Gorgui Dieng are healthy.
