Ty Montgomery (ribs) is practicing in full for Week 7 against the Saints.
It's an indication that Montgomery made it through Sunday's game without any setbacks. Now splitting work with Aaron Jones, Montgomery finds himself on the RB2/3 borderline for Week 7 against New Orleans. Oct 18 - 5:51 PM

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes the Packers need to commit to Aaron Jones as their lead back.

With Aaron Rodgers potentially out for the year, the Packers are expected to be more run heavy behind Brett Hundley. Jones rotated with Ty Montgomery last week, but continued to outplay him. Montgomery is averaging 3.2 YPC with one run over 10 yards. He's also struggled on first downs, with three negative and six zero-yard rushes. The Packers need to start Jones and ride him to keep pressure off Hundley and the pass game. It's possible Jones takes over the backfield in Week 7 against the Saints.

For the second straight day Thursday, ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky reported fourth-round RB Jamaal Williams appears to be "pushing" Ty Montgomery for starting duties.

Per Demovsky, the coaching staff has "praised (Williams') pass-protection ability," an area where Montgomery remains a work in progress. Williams received the first first-team reps of Thursday's practice. Coach Mike McCarthy called Ty Mont a "full threat" on Monday, but Williams is set up to make a preseason push. Williams is shaping up as a solid flier, while Montgomery is a risk/reward RB2.

James Starks played 55-of-78 (71%) snaps Week 10 against the Titans.

Ty Montgomery was limited to 22 plays. The disparity is especially noteworthy considering the lopsided nature of the game -- Montgomery would seem to be a better passing-down option -- and Starks' lengthy injury layoff. Perhaps Montgomery is still dealing with the effects of his illness, but it looks like Starks will be the lead back moving forward. That makes Montgomery just an upside stash until this situation sorts out. Starks needs to be owned in all leagues.
