Redskins coach Jay Gruden said he expects Rob Kelley (ankle) to start against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.
Kelley is back after missing Week 6 with an ankle injury. Though it appears Kelley will draw the start, Gruden said he expects all of the Redskins' running backs to be involved throughout the game including rookie Samaje Perine and pass-catcher Chris Thompson. Fat Rob will be a no-frills RB3 for Monday night's divisional showdown. Oct 20 - 3:24 PM

ESPN reports "there remains a gap" between fourth-round RB Samaje Perine and Rob Kelley.

This is nothing coach Jay Gruden hasn't already told us, but Keim reports Perine is struggling in pass protection. The coaching staff also apparently believes he's "still thinking too much when running the ball, and learning when to juke a guy vs. just run over him." Perine could eventually unseat Kelley, but it sounds like sophomore Kelley is going to have more rope than expected as starter.

CSN Mid-Atlantic's Rich Tandler doesn't believe fourth-rounder Samaje Perine is going to push Rob Kelley for the starting job "anytime soon."

That's been pretty evident for weeks now, and Perine didn't do anything to close the gap in Thursday's preseason opener by fumbling the ball, dropping a third-down pass, and getting crossed up in a blitz pickup. Fumbling and pass protection have been ongoing issues for Perine all camp. Kelley is miles ahead in this battle.

Speaking Monday, Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Rob Kelley will get the "bulk" of the team's carries in Week 10, and that Matt Jones (knee) will have to "earn his way back."

Jones missed Week 8, and the Redskins liked what they saw from Kelley (and Chris Thompson). Jones has been improved on his shaky rookie year, but continues to struggle with consistency and ball security. He has not been a dependable option, so it's not surprising Gruden is willing to take a chance on Kelley. Jones could easily re-take the reins as early as Week 11, but he won't be a viable RB3 against the Vikings.
