Seahawks WRs Sidney Rice (shoulder surgeries) and Kris Durham (shoulder surgery) ran routes during Thursday's OTA workout.
Both players, along with sixth-round S Winston Guy, wore red non-contact jerseys as a precaution. The optimistic Seahawks expect Rice to be the healthiest he's ever been by the time training camp rolls around. As far as we're concerned, the three concussions in a 12-month span are every bit as worrisome as Rice's twin shoulder surgeries. May 18 - 10:06 AM

Receivers Mike Williams (leg) and Sidney Rice (shoulder surgeries, concussions) are not taking part in Seahawks voluntary workouts.

Rice's absence was expected, but there was an outside chance Williams would participate. Recovering from a broken left ankle and fibula, Williams will have to be 100 percent healthy to even be in the mix for a roster spot in training camp.

The proposed CBA approved by the owners allows for all teams to begin negotiating with restricted, unrestricted, and college free agents this Saturday.

As it turns out, that 72-hour window for teams to sign their own free agents won't include "exclusive" negotiations. This change, as pointed out by PFT's Gregg Rosenthal, will go a long way toward eliminating the NFL's perennial tampering problem. The upshot is that there's nothing stopping a team like Denver or Miami from recruiting DeAngelo Williams as early as Saturday -- as long as the players approve the CBA on Friday. One team cannot sign another team's free agent before Wednesday, however.

ESPN's Adam Schefter "wouldn't completely dismiss the possibility" of Chad Ochocinco ending up in Chicago this summer.

Ochocinco would count as a big receiver among the Bears' smaller, quicker collection. Schefter suggests the Bears could also look to weaken a division opponent by luring downfield threat Sidney Rice away, repaying the Vikes for their Bernard Berrian heist. An alternative to that would be looting the Packers' roster for physical receiver James Jones.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports all players with at least four years of service time will be unrestricted free agents under the labor agreement currently being discussed.

This had been the expected outcome as long as a new CBA was reached as opposed to a court-ordered short-term fix. The new free agency rules will affect upwards of 500 players, which should lead to a frenzy in late July after an agreement is reached. DeAngelo Williams, Ahmad Bradshaw, Joseph Addai, Sidney Rice, Santonio Holmes, Steve Smith (NYG), and Zach Miller are the major fantasy names affected. All of the above will hit the open market.

According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, "teams are working from the assumption that the new CBA will return eligibility for unrestricted free agency to four years service."

This directly contradicts a recent report from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly, who claimed "word on the street" was that 2010 free agency rules will apply once the lockout is lifted. No one, from Adam Schefter to Peter King, has been able to get a good read on what rules will end up in place, but the pre-2010 assumption has merit as long as there is agreement on a new CBA. It's hard to imagine the players giving back a year or two on free agency unless the lockout is lifted via court order.

Offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave plans to ease Christian Ponder in as a rookie with a conservative, run-oriented offense.

"We're hoping it will be as effective as the Atlanta one," said Musgrave, "where we can keep the ball away from the other team and be real good on third down and in the red area." Michael Turner led the NFL in rushing attempts in two of Matt Ryan's first three seasons, which bodes well for Adrian Peterson's workload. Keep in mind Musgrave's philosophy when evaluating Percy Harvin and possibly Sidney Rice as well.
