Rams re-signed restricted free agent WR Danny Amendola to a one-year, $1.972 million contract.
It's his second-round tender. The Rams didn't want to lose Amendola, but his stats are likely in for a rude awakening in new coach Jeff Fisher's run-first offense. Amendola is a slot receiver only, and he may not play on early downs in the new system. The Rams want to get better at the wideout spots in the draft. Apr 25 - 10:15 PM

Coach Steve Spagnuolo announced Wednesday that rookie Greg Salas will be the Rams' slot receiver moving forward.

Danny Amendola wants to return ahead of schedule from his dislocated elbow, but Salas is a sneaky pickup for the meantime. In his first 17 NFL games, Sam Bradford targeted Amendola a team-high 120 times (seven a game), leaving behind a bevy of balls to be spread amongst the remaining healthy receivers. The starters outside figure to remain Mike Sims-Walker and Brandon Gibson. The Rams are heaping a lot of responsibility on and showing confidence in their fourth-round rookie. Salas should be owned in all leagues.

Nnamdi Asomugha lined up at right cornerback in 58 of the 74 snaps he played in the preseason.

2011's prize free agent signing lined up in the slot on just five snaps, while Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie covered the slot on 25 of his 39 snaps. Asomugha has been a RCB throughout his career, and if preseason is any indication, he'll remain that way. Though we have a hard time buying Peter King's Friday report that Nnamdi will line up in the slot on passing downs, the threat of it happening is a major concern for Danny Amendola in fantasy leagues.

Jim Thomas and Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch both believe rookie WR Greg Salas' roster spot is safe, though Austin Pettis may not be so fortunate.

Salas has flashed in camp practices and preseason games, and "shown a knack for getting open on underneath routes, at times looking almost like a bigger Danny Amendola." He also possesses better RAC ability than Amendola, which may give us a hint about the latter's long-term outlook in St. Louis. Pettis has practiced well only to disappear in exhibition games.
