Julian Edelman (knee) is expected to be ready for training camp.
Edelman is five months removed from September ACL surgery. He'll sit out OTAs and likely be limited early in training camp, but the Patriots are counting on him to be fully healthy for Week 1. Signed through 2019, Edelman should return as one of Tom Brady's top targets. Feb 10 - 2:41 PM

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe doesn't see Chris Hogan as an obvious replacement for Julian Edelman (knee) in the slot.

The Patriots are missing 158 targets from last season with Edelman out and while Hogan does have some experience in the slot, Volin still sees him as more of a deep threat. Danny Amendola's skill set is more similar to Edelman's, though Volin doesn't expect him to play more than 20-25 snaps per game. Rather than finding a replacement for Edelman in the slot, Volin believes the Patriots will adjust their scheme with James White, Dion Lewis and Dwayne Allen all likely to see an "uptick" in targets.

Tom Brady completed just 59.4 percent of his passes with 12 touchdowns and four interceptions while averaging 246.7 passing yards in seven games without Julian Edelman (knee) in 2015.

The Patriots averaged 23.1 points per game and lost four of seven during that stretch. When Edelman was healthy in 2015, New England went a perfect 9-0 with Brady completing 67.8 percent of his throws with 24 touchdowns and three interceptions while averaging 338.1 passing yards per game. The Patriots totaled 33.7 points per game over that span. New England didn't have as deep a receiving corps back then—Chris Hogan and Brandin Cooks were on other teams—but Brady's immense chemistry with Edelman cannot be overlooked. Playing without him will be an obvious downgrade for Brady, though New England should be able to make do with Hogan, James White and others operating out of the slot.
