The Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett expects the Lions to again use a running back by committee approach this season.
As they have been for the past couple years, and that doesn't look like it's going to change under new coach Matt Patricia, who retained OC Jim Bob Cooter. The Lions have added LeGarrette Blount to the stable, which also included pass-down back Theo Riddick, all-around-does-nothing-great Ameer Abdullah, and depth guys Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington. The Lions are also expected to add a back in the draft. Blount is the best bet for touchdowns as it stands here on April 11, while Riddick is the clear favorite for catches. This backfield should again be a weekly mess that will be wholly unpredictable from a fantasy standpoint. Apr 11 - 1:19 PM

Eagles VP of Football Operations Howie Roseman said LeGarrette Blount remains the team's starting running back, even after acquiring Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins on Tuesday.

We're not really buying it, though it's possible Ajayi could take a backseat to Blount in Week 9 as he learns the Eagles' offense. Roseman said the team liked what it saw from Ajayi in joint practices with the Dolphins this summer and despite rumblings of a knee issue, the Eagles did not find any red flags after going through his medical records. Ajayi has been largely unproductive this year but should benefit from a change of scenery behind a better offensive line in Philadelphia. It wouldn't be a surprise if he took over the lead role from Blount following the team's bye in Week 10.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: On top of market share uncertainty, they're facing a Broncos run defense holding RBs to the fewest PPR points and heading into Week 8, they were 1st in rush DVOA and 3rd in adjusted line yards (per FO).

Wendell Smallwood played 35-of-79 snaps Week 4 against the Chargers.

Smallwood played nine more snaps than LeGarrette Blount, but he was out-touched 17-to-14 and Blount had a much better day on the ground, thanks in large part to a 68-yard run. This is clearly going to be a timeshare moving forward. Blount may have more upside as the likely goal-line back of choice -- Smallwood did steal a touchdown after Blount failed multiple times near the end zone on Sunday -- but Smallwood should be the most consistent fantasy player as the less game-script dependent option.
