Tyrod Taylor has been diagnosed with a concussion and is week to week.
It makes for a cruel end to an extremely ugly night. Especially with the Browns having 10 days to prepare for Week 4, they will go ahead and make the switch at quarterback. Baker Mayfield will start against the Raiders with Taylor backing him up. That's if he can clear the concussion protocol in time. Taylor was going to be benched regardless of his health. His play was that poor through his first 2.5 starts. Sep 20 - 10:08 PM

Speaking after Thursday's win over the Jets, Browns coach Hue Jackson said he would have to "watch the tape" before naming his Week 4 starter.

The tape will tell Jackson to start Mayfield, and the No. 1 overall pick will be under center against the Raiders.

CBS' Jason La Canfora came away from Browns camp with the impression that Tyrod Taylor will be the Week 1 starter at quarterback.

La Canfora passes along the observation in an article about how impressive Baker Mayfield has been. Taylor has apparently been even better so far in camp. It certainly seems possible that the Browns will stick to their guns about Taylor starting Week 1, but the countdown clock for a No. 1 overall quarterback starts the second he is selected. Mayfield is going to make 2018 starts, likely early.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer believes the Browns are serious about starting Tyrod Taylor in Week 1, and that Baker Mayfield will begin his career on the bench.

Coach Hue Jackson has insisted as such but there is little reason to believe when a coach says such things. We are still dubious that the No. 1 overall pick will begin his rookie year riding the pine, but Taylor is a legitimate obstacle. Mayfield will need to light up camp and the preseason to give himself a shot.

Sal Maiorana of the Democrat and Chronicle believes it would be "utterly shocking" if Nathan Peterman does not start Week 14 against the Colts.

Maiorana notes Peterman took "all the first-team reps" in practice this week while Tyrod Taylor is still dealing with a sore knee which has given him a noticeable limp. If he does in fact start, Peterman will have a golden matchup, but he cannot be trusted in fantasy lineups following his debacle against the Chargers. Peterman getting the nod would also be a downgrade for Kelvin Benjamin.

Coach Sean McDermott announced rookie Nathan Peterman will start Week 11 against the Chargers.

"We were made to be more than 5-4, and I've come here to be more than 5-4," McDermott said. "Really, it's about becoming a better team. Every position is evaluated and that's the direction I decided to go." Taylor and the entire offense is coming off a horrendous Week 10 against the Saints, but that was his first bad game at home. Peterman came in late for mop-up work, playing his first 11 snaps of the season. He went 7-of-10 for 79 yards and a score and was handpicked by McDermott and the new regime as a fifth-rounder. He had a nondescript preseason. His first NFL start will be on the road in L.A. against the Bolts. The offense will continue to run through LeSean McCoy.
