Stars GM Jim Nill has been re-evaluating his philosophy when it comes to determining when prospects should be brought into the NHL.
Nill comes from the old Red Wings' school of waiting for their prospects to be "overripe" before establishing themselves in the NHL. The Red Wings liked to have some of their prospects spend years in the AHL before getting a real shot at the next level. Nill is seeing more merit in allowing players to jump into the league quicker though. "I've always talked about 'overripe' and I truly believed that, but you look around the league and teams are starting to go to their players at a much younger age, and those players are handling the pressure very well," Nill said. "So now we need to consider how we're using players and whether or not they might be ready earlier than we thought." We might see players like Miro Heiskanen make the leap quicker as a result. The blueliner will turn 19-years-old in July and it wouldn't be shocking to see him in the NHL next season after Dallas took him with the third overall pick in 2017. Apr 29 - 7:09 AM

Tyler Seguin tallied the game-winning goal in overtime against the Boston Bruins on Monday afternoon.

Seguin weaved his way through three tired Boston players before tucking the puck into the net on a delayed penalty. His four-game point streak was snapped Saturday when the Stars returned from their bye week, but Seguin has been red hot lately. He has eight goals and four assists in the past 10 games. Alexander Radulov and Stephen Johns had the other markers in the match, while Jamie Benn had two assists.

Gemel Smith skated with Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov at Thursday's practice.

"It's definitely exciting for me," said Smith, who lined up on the wing with Benn at center. "It's a great opportunity. Let them do their things, and when I have a chance to make a play, don't be afraid to make a play." Tyler Seguin was moved to a combination with Mattias Janmark and Devin Shore.

Tyler Pitlick scored a pair of goals in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Pitlick had no points in the first five games, but he's collected four points in last three contests. The goals were Pitlick's first two of the 2017-18 season. He finished the game with a plus-3 rating, two shots on goal and two hits in 10:46 of ice time. Don't let tonight's offensive outburst fool you, he isn't worth owning in standard fantasy leagues. Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin also scored for the Stars tonight.
