Staal bounced back in a big way in 2016-17 during his first campaign with the Minnesota Wild. It was hoped that a change of scenery and a spot on one of the team's top-two lines would get the veteran center going again and he delivered. Staal led the Wild with 28 goals and finished second on the club with 65 points in 82 games. He registered just 39 points in 83 matches with the Hurricanes and Rangers in 2015-16. He also matched his previous career high with eight game-winning goals and paced the club with 211 shots. Staal sustained a concussion in the playoffs, but he was cleared in May and he will ready for training camp. His resurgence provided Minnesota with some much-needed depth scoring and that should continue this season.

Eric Staal scored two goals and an assist in the Wild's 5-1 victory over the Dallas Stars.
Both of Staal's goals, his first and second of the preseason, came in the third period of Minnesota's win. After a tough 2015-2016 season, Staal netted 28 goals last year and has scored 20-plus goals in three of his last four seasons. He is a solid addition to any fantasy roster and should be good to crack 20 goals and 60 points again this year.

Eric Staal is arguably one of the most appealing players that were left unprotected ahead of the expansion draft.
Staal bounced back in a big way in 2016-17 by scoring 28 goals and 65 points in 82 games. The Wild got him at a low point in his career though and he consequently comes with an affordable $3.5 million annual cap hit for the next two seasons. Jason Zucker ended up on the Wild's protected list instead and that was likely out of a desire to shield the younger forward. For his part, Staal has declined to comment until after the expansion draft.
