Kadri had a career year with the Maple Leafs last season and he rewarded the team for their faith in him. He received a six-year, $27 million contract after the 2015-16 campaign and proved to be worth the investment. Kadri potted a personal best 32 goals, which put him second on the club, and he had 61 points in 82 contests. He tallied 12 markers on the power play and finished with 236 shots. That total fell short of the 260 he racked up the year before, but his 13.6 shooting percentage was a drastic improvement from the 6.5 he had previously. Kadri was tasked with shutting down the best players on the opposition and he often did that while outscoring the combinations he was matched against. However, he will have improve his faceoff work after he won 544 of his 1,134 puck drops for a 48.0 winning percentage. Kadri doesn't shy away from the rough stuff either, as he picked up 97 penalty minutes and 124 hits. He may not hit the 30-goal plateau again in 2017-18, but Kadri will continue to be a two-way threat for the Leafs this season. Another 60-point effort is possible, but if you scale back your expectations to around 50-55 points then you probably won't be disappointed.

Coach Mike Babcock isn't satisfied with the trio of Nazem Kadri, Patrick Marleau and Leo Komarov.
"I thought early (in camp) they were going good. But that line's got to be better," said Babcock. "That group can be way better, way quicker, a lot more diligent. They've got to upgrade. We need Kadri to be real good for us to be effective. That group has got to find some chemistry and get going." Kadri and Komarov are still adjusting to Marleau, just like he is adjusting to them. Kadri feels like he is getting an understanding of how to play with Marleau. They will get another opportunity to work out the kinks before the regular season starts.
