Barkov hasn't been able to stay healthy during his young NHL career. His rookie season was cut short due to a knee injury and he has missed chunks of the past three years due to variety of ailments. Barkov sat out 21 matches in 2016-17 with a back injury, including the last six games of the campaign. He is expected to be fine for training camp. The 21-year-old center is Florida's best offensive player and missing him for chunks at a time has had a trickle-down effect that hurts the scoring depth on the roster. Barkov appeared in 61 games last season and he still finished second on the team in scoring with 52 points. His 0.85 points per game was the best on the Panthers and his 21 goals ranked third on the club. He has produced at a 70-point pace in each of the last two seasons, but injuries have stood in the way of his progress. If he can stay healthy then he should be able to achieve that mark, but even if he skates in over 70 contests then a 60-plus point campaign is achievable. Barkov is projected to play between Jonathan Huberdeau, who had his own injury issues last year, and former KHL star Evgeny Dadonov.
Updated Oct. 21: Aleksander Barkov picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals. Barkov registered the primary assist on Vincent Trocheck's power play goal (3-0) in the second period. Barkov then added a shorthanded goal into an empty net in the dying moments of the third frame. He finished the game with a plus-1 rating and three shots on goal in 26:18 of ice time. Barkov now has two goals and four assists in seven games this season. The thing that stands out about Barkov right now, is that he's averaging 22:49 of ice time, which is rather high for a forward.

Aleksander Barkov scored a goal in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Barkov's goal at the 5:49 mark of the first period gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the time. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Penguins responded by scoring the next three goals. Florida managed to tie the game, but again, the Penguins jumped ahead thanks to Conor Sheary's goal with less than three minutes remaining. Aleksander Barkov hasn't scored a goal in five games this season.
Barkov is off to a slow start in 2017-18 with three assists and a minus-4 rating. Coach Bob Boughner wants to see better play from his top line of Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau and Evgenii Dadonov. "They had a great preseason," Boughner said. "I liked their first couple games of the [regular] season. I think the last couple games they've gotten away from it a little bit. And I've separated it at times as well. But those three guys play well together, and it's just about limiting the turnovers and playing a little more north-south with that line. They know that. I think they put pressure on themselves to be better, and I know they can be."

Aleksander Barkov registered two assists in the Panthers' 5-4 win against Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Unfortunately Barkov was also minus-one, bringing him down to minus-three on the season. That aside, Barkov is a great young offensive forward. He was limited to 61 games last season, but if he can stay healthy in 2017-18 then a 60-point campaign shouldn't be beyond his capabilities.

Nick Bjugstad posted a goal and assist in Florida's 5-4 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday.
Bjugstad dealt with injuries last year and he only had 14 points in 54 outings. It looks like he's ready to get himself back on track this campaign. Evgenii Dadonov and Jared McCann also picked up a goal and an assist each in the contest, while Aleksander Barkov earned a pair of helpers.
