Alexander Wennberg took a big step forward last season despite a somewhat sluggish conclusion to the regular season. He played in 80 games, making it easy to divide his campaign into quarters and if you do that you'll find he recorded 19 points, 16 points, 17 points, and then just seven points over each respective 20-game stretch. That slow finish bled into the playoffs where he was held to just an assist and had a minus-three rating. That being said, his 59-point regular season still represented a 19-point jump from his sophomore showing and we're not overly concerned with the 22-year-old's (23 on Sept. 22) slow patch. He's a great talent who might even end up doing a bit better this season by edging past the 60-point milestone.
Updated Oct. 14: Alexander Wennberg scored the overtime winner as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-4 on Saturday night. The overtime winner was rather fluky, with Artemi Panarin's shot bouncing off Dubnyk before being deflected off of Wennberg's belly and into the net. He also added an assist in the win, bringing his season totals to a goal and four assists in five games. It is not irrational to expect the Swede to top 65 points this season.

Nick Foligno moved up to the first line during Monday's practice.
Foligno is still serving as a center in contrast to his usual position of left wing, but now his linemates are Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson. That's pretty much ideal for Foligno's fantasy value, but we'll have to wait and see if the line sticks. Alexander Wennberg was bumped to the second line in the shakeup.

Alexander Wennberg earned two helpers in Friday's 5-0 win over the Islanders to begin the 2017-18 season.
Wennberg assisted on goals by defensemen Ryan Murray and Zach Werenski in the match. He also had three shots and a plus-2 rating. This should be a big year for the playmaking center, especially if he can up his efforts in the goal department. Wenneberg had 59 points in 80 games last year and he should comfortably surpass the 60-point plateau in 2017-18.

Alexander Wennberg played in his first preseason game on Sunday and was on the first line with Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson.
The trio could stick together for most of the season, making them very valuable in fantasy. "It’s the first game, high expectations, but I feel like if we can play a little bit more together it’s just going to get better," Wennberg said. "Everyone’s been talking it up that we’d be playing together. Obviously, it wasn’t the best game, but it’s a lot of fun playing with these skilled players." Look for a bigger year from Wennberg who had 13 goals and 59 points in 80 games last season.

Cam Atkinson notched a goal and an assist in Sunday's 5-3 preseason loss to Nashville.
He scored on a second-period power play from Artemi Panarin and Alexander Wennberg. The trio combined for two goals and four assists in the contest. That bodes well for the start of the regular season because they expected to form Columbus' top line.
