Right Wing Outliers

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

The rankings you will find in these pages are an average. We took the ranks of Michael Finewax, Brian Rosenbaum, Ryan Dadoun and Corey Abbott to formulate a composite score. Of course, there was no way we were all going to agree on every player. Some of us had unique feelings on certain guys, making them outliers. Here are the right winger rankings and explanations:

Brian Rosenbaum had Jordan Eberle at 12th. The average composite draft position was 17.75.

I know I'm higher on Jordan Eberle than my Rotoworld colleagues, but I just think he's going to return to his 2011 level of production (70-plus points) skating alongside a tremendously-motivated John Tavares, who will be playing for a contract. Eberle has all the skills to complement Tavares and he will be counted as one of the Islanders’ go-to-guys, something that he was not during his last few seasons with the Oilers. Look for him to rebound in a big way.

Brian Rosenbaum had Cam Atkinson at 24. The average composite draft position was 13.5.

After posting back-to-back 40 points seasons, Cam Atkinson, at the tender age of 27, improved his production to 53 points in 2015-16. Last year, Atkinson benefited from a huge offensive spike all Blue Jacket players' realized, and his totals improved yet again, to 62 points. I think that is the top end for him. I'm expecting the Blue Jackets to decline as a team and I'm not buying into the fact that at 29, Atkinson is going to get any better. That all adds up to a correction for me. I expect Atkinson will be fortunate to repeat his 53-point total of two seasons ago.
